2012 Projects thread

Purpose of the thread:

To keep us on task regarding projects. I'll try to update this monthly. If other members have projects they wish to work on or suggest this is a good space for it.

Thank you to everyone for their contributions. The hours of hard work and dedication from members from all over the world continues to amaze me. Over the space of the last 10 years we've been slowly but surely piecing together some of the puzzle of tennis history.

I want to take the space thank some of our early pioneers here. Andy T first suggested a results section by year, and Andrew Tas supplied a treasure trove of early results we have built on.

May

Long term projects I'm aware of....

Chaton

Did great work on 1979 and is currently working on 1978. For Chaton's 1978 project please see:
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=447999

Thanks Chaton

David K

Has diligently been keeping up with and maintaining all of the additions to the Yearly results pages. Thank you for helping to preserve my sanity David!

----------------------------------------------
Jimbo

Working on an Australian Open Record Book and Player Guide
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=452878

This is part of a project to track down every Australian Open result possible. GeeTee's help has been invaluable with this. This is a slow but steady project-my goal is to cover 2 years per month.

For May I'd like to do 1926-1927. (1926 is complete)

Working on 1979 and 1929 as my top priorities yearwise. I want to get every result I can from these years.--target end date--December.

Working on editing in Ugarte's 1964 results-thanks Ugarte
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=447992
Target dates: May and June

I've selected Stuttgart and the Italian Open tournaments as events to flesh out with detailed data and pictures. I'll work on these throughout 2012.

The Italian

Stuttgart

Suzanne Lenglen's complete career results.
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=194266

And adding threads to the index is something I'm sorely behind on.

----------------------------------------------
Ugarte

Continues to provide detailed results for the 1960s. His current project is 1962.

Thanks Ugarte

Have I forgotten anyone or any ongoing projects?

Still working on 1978 - Thread. A bit more slowly in the moment because I'm more on court as the outdoor clay court season in Europe started.

Thanks for the reminder Chaton! I knew I had forgotten something

Slow but sure is fine-we are all volunteering. Besises, playing tennis is the best excuse there is IMO. I started my outdoor league last week and won my first match.

This and the fall are my favorite times of year. Soon the heat and humidity will come and make it an oven on hasrd courts. Enjoy your clay!

So same here, started with a 6-3 6-1 victory in singles and doubles as well.

I'm not the big clay court player, prefer hard court. But red clay is the most common outdoor surface here in europe, especially in Germany...

I'm now in the part after the US Open of 1978 so it shouldn't take that long anymore to finish...

Re: 2012 Projects thread

1978 is finished so far. Still missing the Futures, I don't have any results of them. Results from international tournaments and british circuit included as far as I have got them.

I jump back now to 1979, here there also some results of the british circuit to add.

As I mentioned, I found some additional results in a library in Berlin. So my next year will be 1968. Of course the results of this year are not complete. Main source is the german eddition of the tennis magazine.

Sounds great Chaton. 1968 needs a lot of work-I wish you well. With you working on 1968 and Ugarte adding so much to this era it's looking all the time

But don't expect too much. Copied all the results pages but didn't go through yet. So I have no overview how much I can add in this year.

I also want to thank Vinkje83 for help with correcting Helga Masthoff (and not Mastoff!) results. It inspired me to watch a match with the long limbed German. Thanks Vinkje83

I want to end by inviting anyone who wishes to contribute to come and join us. Every contribution, large or small, is helping to build what is, in my opinion, the best resource for women's tennis history on the web.

Re: 2012 Projects thread

Well, I believe I have edited in all the corrections and additions supplied by Jimbo, Gee Tee, Newmark, Elegos ... that were added to the Yearly Results section - first time I've caught up with you guys in over a year I think. So - please let me know if I missed anything. But until more comes in, I will return to adding doubles and minor tournaments to the 1956 thread.
