Re: Random Shots III

Masha GL at the OG!

I got to Eastbourne this year and got sunburnt It was strangely hot and not very windy. Freak conditions

Saw Caro lose, Petra lose, Laura win, chased famous people. Kveta Peschke was very sweet, Marion and Caro not so much I haven't got any breakfast tales from the hotel sadly as none of the players were there

Moving on to Wimbly, I was deleriously happy to see Mirjana Lucic beat Bartoli, just sorry she couldn't get to the second week. Hopefully it will be good for her confidence though.

It's a shame Slava couldn't pull it off against Serena today, she played so well at times. I wish they'd put them on CC instead of the Vika/Ana mess. There's no-one left I'm really rooting for now so it can be a more relaxed 2nd week

Re: Random Shots III

Well, it's finally happened. The first British man in a Wimby final since 1938. (Yes, I'm serious.)

Huge congratulations to Andy.

Re: Random Shots III

This was the dream final for me! And we had a bit of sunshine, and a good use of the roof.

Absolutely gutted for Andy - was there anyone, apart from Lendl, with dry eyes? Certainly not this Momosapiens. And he's dead right, he IS getting closer. Keep yer chin up, Wee Andy, you'll get there.

And then, of course...

ALL HAIL THE KING!!!

Roger is back where he belongs - Wimbledon champ and world no. 1 - and all is right with the (tennis (mens!)) world. Sorry if that twists anyone's shorts, I really was conflicted about cheering and in the end just cheered for the fantastic tennis. But you can't possibly not appreciate Fed and all he's accomplished both for his own career and for the sport. Never mind the cowbell, where's the darn GOAT? (They could always use it to trim the grass, after all... )

Oh, and a big ol' to all the sods (since we're still in grass season) who've been trying to write him off for - how many years, now?! The King is still rockin' his shorts, baby.

I can't blame you for appreciating Federer - he was just too good.

Andy: I actually like him more now because he showed how much he cared. And he didn't freeze - he won a set and played well.

(It is annoying me a bit that the press immediately start going on about "plucky, gallant British losers" - he's not a loser, he was just outplayed.)

Roll on the Olympics.

Re: Random Shots III

Forgot to mention Jonathan Marray winning the men's doubles with Nielsen - talk about a fairytale. Nice to see someone who's toiled their whole career achieve something like this.

Re: Random Shots III

Jonathan Marray winning the men's doubles with Freddie Nielsen - yes indeed, what a wonderful story! And beating the Bryan brothers along the way (among others)! And poor Nielsen had to borrow grass court shoes for the tournament, as his were 3 yrs old and worn out!!! (Although I think by the time they reached the semis, he had picked up a sponsor - was it Fred Perry? Prob. for them both, if Marray didn't already have that.)

C'mon Tim!

(I also saw a tweet from someone snarking about was Nielsen seriously going to win a Slam before Caro...?! Mean, but snarkily amusing for a second or two. Much, much more amusing to me is how Caro's accent has changed - she's definitely picked up a slight Ulster twang, faint but unmistakeable. What about ye, Wee Mac!! )

Re: Random Shots III

Has Nielsen and Marray won something before? Had they even a top-100 ranking in doubles?

They weren't even a TEAM before! Unbelievable! They just got together for Wimbledon as a pick-up team, I'm not sure if they'd ever played together before, but certainly not regularly. That's what makes it such an amazing story.

I know, it's a great story. How nice too to have so many 'old' champs this year - Rog, Serena, Venus, Lisa Raymond, Mike Bryan and Jonny Marray all flying the flag for the over 30's Well done to all the old dears
