At some point in the first set, Sorana was 3-5 down, when she looked at her coach, Victor Ionita, probably hoping that he'll have a sympathetic smile for her. His face was obviously blank, seeing her playing like crap. That moment she decided that he should be better off the court and asked the umpire to bring someone to escort him out. At first he didn't want to leave, but he quickly understood Sorana is not kidding, so he took his bag and left.
I have never seen any other professional tennis player doing that to his/her coach on court. Never. And I'm pretty sure I won't see this again very soon.

If you look closely, most Romanian tennis players these days play their best when they have no pressure at all or when you least expect it.
Beating Top 10 players in slams R1, then lose to ITF players in R2.

Simona fucked up 2 Fes titles, last year she was the only Top 100 player in the SF. Irina-Camelia reached Marbella F and won Tashkent completely out of the blue, while she was getting routined in every clay tournament she entered as a seed. Cadantu, the same, won Biella 100k out of the blue and reaching Monterrey F, as well as Katowice SF when she was basically a walking bye.
And Alexandra D, her Warsaw titles were also completely unexpected, she was playing her best tennis (which doesn't mean that she was messing up many cakewalk draws).

However, it's just a tendency I noticed. It shows that they all have so much more game than they show.
Ok, I get it now, I thought you meant Scheppers put pressure on her today. Started wondering if we both just saw the same match

It was shocking, really.

The only time I have seen something like that is from players who are coached by their dads for example, so I at least understand that there is a lot of tension behind those relationships and that there is a lot going on behind the scenes we don't know.

But as I said, Victor has always been supportive towards her. Last year when she played well in Stanford, he was cheering 'Haide, Sorana' after every good action.
Today, there simply was no reason from him to be cheerful. Of course he was pissed, but he didn't insult her or anything.

Pathetic, really.

I'm sure the fathers of Mary Pierce, Caro Wozniacki, Jelena Dokic and Richard Williams, when they left the court during their daughters matches, they did it because they wanted to leave the court and not because their daughters asked them to.

That's why I said I've never seen anything like this before.

It does happen in junior matches, where kids get frustrated and tell their parents to go away, as if it's their fault that they are playing badly. But it's rare at pro level, and rare for someone to send anyone away who is not immediate family.

Bartoli once banned her father from the stands, but he was being very vocal.

Ionita wasn't even that. I don't know, as if she was playing under hormones, annoyed by a few bad calls, annoyed by her coach, annoyed by her own game and her own stupidity in the end.

That is rude indeed. There must have been something brewing between them before that. As for precedent cases like this all that comes to mind is when ATP's Tomic asked that his father be removed from the stands but in that case the father was not his coach.

I must have missed that Bartoli match.

Poor Victor, having to deal with such a spoiled child. I'm pretty sure she'll say that she was ill today, like she often does when she loses. Time to grow up, Sorana! Out of all the Romanians in top 300 she is the most immature one. And I included Mitu and Ema Bogdan

If Sorana only had half of the fighting spirit of our Alexandras, she would have been Top 20 already.

What striked me as funny was Sorana talking to the chair umpire during the sit-down between the two sets and asking her for permission to go to Victor herself to ask him personally to leave.

I don't like to say ugly words about a Romanian player, no matter what was the result, but now I can't help to not say that this girl is simply stupid. She's been wasting all the chances she's been given with no regrets at all.
The time is the most important resource Sorana and it passes quickly.

As about the incident with her coach, it's something normal if we remember that every time she misses a ball she throws angry words to him. This boy must be very patient and very in love with her, otherwise I don't imagine how he can stand such a treatment.
Sometimes I wonder if Octavian Bellu would be able to train Sorana

Are they having a romantic relationship? I figured it was just sex & coaching. In this particular order.

I don't know and I didn't say that they are in love, but he must love her very much if he can stand such an insulting behavior from her. Love is unidirectional most of the time

Are there rumours that the two of them are involved in a relationship?
