Hey guys,
I've added 58-67 for the Surrey Grass Courts (bold & italics). In 80 & 82 the Tourney was not held.

re the Euro Amateurs - fantastic detective work by NewMark To complete the Roll of Honour, I have Virginia Ruzici as winner of the '78 edition but sadly no finalist or score.

Re: Official Tournament Winners by Event

If I'm not mistaken, the runner-up at the Cannes Championships in 1913 was Lesley Cadle (GBR).
--

There was no Beau Site New Year Meeting from 1915-19.
--

According to "Ayre's Lawn Tennis Almanack", Elizabeth Ryan won the women's singles title at the Cote d'Azur Championships in 1914.
--

Also according to "Ayres'", Countess Clara von der Schulenburg won the women's singles title at the Metropole Club in Cannes in 1907.

No tournament was held at the Metropole Hotel in the years 1915-19.

Re: Official Tournament Winners by Event

All-India Championships/National Lawn Tennis Championships of India

Introduction

Lawn tennis was introduced into India by the British in the late nineteenth century. A ladies' singles event was held at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Tournament in Lahore (now in Pakistan) as early as 1887. However, participation by women in these early years was limited mainly to the wives and daughters of British civilian and army officers based in India.

What's more, membership of lawn tennis clubs during the late years of the British Raj was very restricted, with most members being wealthy or upper class Europeans and male Indians. The dress code for Indian women also acted a bar for a number of years.

The first edition of what became known as the All-India Championships was held in 1910, in Allahabad, in the north-western state of Utter Pradesh. This first all-India tournament featured a women's singles event, won by a Mrs Kendall. Most of the early winners of this event appear to have been married British women living in India; little is known about them. From the mid-1920s onwards participation by Indian women such as Jenny Sandison and Leela Row became more common and, gradually, a norm.

By the late 1930s, participation and interest in the All-India Championships had decreased dramatically. A decision was thus taken in 1939 to move the tournament to a different city, indeed to hold it in a different city every year, the three main cities in this respect being Calcutta, Bombay and Madras. In reality, the tournament was held in Allahabad only two more times after 1938; in later years the main venues were Calcutta, then the capital, New Delhi.

In 1946, the All-India Championships tournament was renamed the National Lawn Tennis Championships of India by the India Lawn Tennis Association. This change, and similar changes, coincided with India's increasing independence from British rule, the Republic of India being established in 1950.

The surface used at the early All-India Championships is unclear, although it was more than likely either grass or clay. It appears that grass was used several times as the surface for the All-India Championships and the later National Lawn Tennis Championships of India. Contemporary sources confirm that grass was definitely used in 1977, for example, when the latter tournament was held in Bombay.

The All-India Championships and the later National Championships of India tournaments were almost always held around the Christmas/New Year periods. This meant that both the intense summer temperatures and the rains of the monsoon season could be avoided.
