Moscow Indoor Championships, Russia

In addition to the Moscow Outdoor Championships tournament first held in the summer of 1901, there was also a Moscow Indoor Championships tournament, held indoors in winter. The latter tournament was first held in 1937, when it consisted of just two events, a men's singles and a women's singles. A men's doubles event and a mixed doubles event were added in 1939, while a women's doubles event first took place in 1947, when the tournament resumed after World War Two (it had not been held from 1941 to 1946).

Saint Petersburg Championships/Leningrad Outdoor Championships, Russia

The first Saint Petersburg Championships were held in 1903, when the tournament consisted principally of just two events, a men's singles and a men's doubles. Open events for women, including doubles and mixed doubles, were added in later years. The Saint Petersburg Championships were held every year from 1903 to 1914, outdoors, on clay courts.

The First World War and the Russian Revolution meant that the tournament was not held again until 1923, by which time Saint Petersburg had been renamed Leningrad (having briefly also been called Petrograd). This change meant that the tournament also bore this new name, under which it ran almost every year until the upheavals of the early 1990s, when the former name of the city was restored. An outdoor tournament was held in Saint Petersburg once again from 1992 onwards.

European Amateur Championships

The short-lived European Amateur Championships tournament was usually held in early August, although the first edition was held in mid-September. In most years it attracted some of the top players, mainly from Eastern Bloc/Soviet countries. This is not surprising, given that the tournament was held in Communist countries for all but five years of its existence.

The European Amateur Championships tournament was discontinued in 1983.
