The rest of the Istanbul YEC semifinal results can't change this year end ranking anymore.
2012 Official Year End Ranking:
1. Victoria Azarenka
2. Maria Sharapova
3. Serena Williams
4. Agnieszka Radwanska
5. Angelique Kerber
6. Sara Errani
7. Na Li
8. Petra Kvitova
9. Samantha Stosur
10. Marion Bartoli / Caroline Wozniacki (depends on Wozniacki's performance at MM YEC)
Vika clinched year end #1 for the first in her career.
Sharapova finished world #2 for the first time since 2006.
Radwanska finished at #4, the highest year end ranking for her so far, same happened to Kerber and Errani who finished #5 and #6 respectively. (New career high ranking for both of them.)

I'm excited already for the 2013 rankings race. It looks like Maria, Vika and Serena will take turns holding the ranking next season for some time until somebody (hopefully Maria, probably Serena, but since she doesn't play as much as Vika who knows) decides to hang onto it for a while. I think it's going to be exciting with those 3 having so many points to defend at every important tournament. God help us if they all have poor results and Aga becomes #1  |

Maria now has 10,045 ranking points and is only 550 points behind Vika.
Is this the first time Maria exceeds 10,000 ranking points in her career?

Yes. And it's also the first time that WTA Top 2 both exceed 10,000 points.
