INGE ????
Germany
Born 1921 or 1922
Died 26 January 2005 in Berlin
Married Pohmann, before 1947

she was the mother of the tennis player Hans-Jurgen Pohmann (b. 23 May 1947)

Before 1947, in our yearly threads there is only one German Inge. In 1943 German Closed Champs. the RU was Inge Hartelt. She could be the later Inge Pohmann?
Another candidate may be the mysterious I Schumann. She was good enough to make the third round at Wimbledon in 1939 and ended the year ranked #5 in Germany. My gut is telling me she could be our Inge Pohmann.

Perhaps it is possible to email her son Hans-Jurgen Pohmann?

I had forgotten the recent post #83 in 1940 thread, where there is Schumann's first name: Inge!

I have found a photo, taken on July 1942, of Gisela Enger, already married. She is on left, and Alice Florian on right.

Following these tracks in 1950 thread...

The NYT reports that "Mrs Caroll, former Viennese net star who came to the US about 11 years ago, utilized her good western grip forehand to excellent advantage and kept Mrs Ganzenmuller on the defensive most of the way."

I have found confirmation that Elfriede "Elfi" von Kriegs-Au went to USA and married a Mr Carroll. She was born in 1915.

http://www.myheritage.it/research/co...ion=showRecord
http://www.fold3.com/document.php?do...e=&xid=179

But I am not still sure if she was this woman:
http://ssdmf.info/by_number/092/092-30-2342.html

or this woman that at last lived in Florida:
http://radaris.com/p/Elfriede/Carroll/
http://www.usidentify.com/elfriede-c.../profile/jz2y9
http://www.publicrecords.com/people-...ede%20-carroll
http://results.beenverified.com/inde...port&x=53&y=18

Both were born in 1915, and maybe they are the same person.
Rollo, if you have access to some American names database, can you check please?

In the meantime we can fix this:

ELFRIEDE "Elfi" von KRIEGS-AU
Austria / United States
Born 1915
Died
Married Carroll, after 1939

Knowing her year of birth, now we can also differentiate her tennis results from her mother's results. Her mother was Tilda von Kriegs-Au (we don't known her maiden name).

Rollo, in 1950 thread above you have written that Elfi von Kriegs-Au Carroll "from 1949 to 1952 won the Eastern US Clay title for four years running."
As we have in our yearly threads only her victory in 1950, do you have her other victories?
But in 1952 we have this result:
Jul 26, Eastern States Clay Courts , Philadelphia ,PA,US (CL)
FI Joan Merciadis d. Connie Bowan 6-0 6-1

Other question: looking on men's results I have seen that "Eastern Clay Court Championships" (or "Eastern US Clay Champs.") and "Eastern States Clay Courts Champs." seem two different tournaments, with different winners.
Is it true? Their denominations are very much alike. Which is the difference between them?

I'll see if I can get an answer for this Jimbo. Good work!
