Wow, considering your feelings about Maria that must have been extremely painful.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

I saw a tweet that Caro wanted to leave. It doesnt make sense to hang around with bad weather, waiting to play a mixed match.

She needs to work on her game. In good weather on hardcourt.
This is a very real crisis. She has to get the mental toughness back, and I dont even know if thats possible

I'm pretty sure she knows the score.

I'm really afraid that her reaction is to go watch Golf..... I pray to god that I'm wrong.

Except for maybe a bit of mixed doubles, there's no Caro for a month now: Olympics start July 25. I wonder how much of the next four weeks will be trainign and how much vacation?

Oh, I am not so juvenile, I cannot recognize the effort Sharapova has put into coming back after her shoulder injury. The year, year and a half, where she was beaten by mugs, yet didn't give up ... Come to think of it, more like 2 years+ really. She came back ... early 2009 and didn't make any impact before mid 2011 ... It's a long time to be thrashed by WTA #75, yet still work hard and believe in a better future.

That being said, I don't like her screaming, her 'just hit as hard as possible' style, her cold, arrogant and to me, totally unlikable persona. .. Guess it doesn't make it any better that I completely don't get the raving about her looks.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

She barely played any matches since Copenhagen. Only won 5 the whole clay season. None on grass.
If there's a chance to get hardcourt matches, she should take it.
I knew even though Paszek played a full week, being tired doesnt matter as much as being mentally weak.
The mental part is a biggest part. Just like Pironkova cant win a set point from Sharapova. Doesnt matter if you played some great points. You close or you lose

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

Generally I am in the camp that believes she played a little too much last year, particularly during the clay season, but I do think it could help her to play a hardcourt tournament between now and the Olympics. I guess that Stanford would make the most sense. Whatever she does I hope she doesn't take too long of a break. Things are looking pretty bleak but she can still have a good end to the season if she puts the work in and doesn't give up.

I really see no point in not playing one of the US HCs unless she's seriously kidding herself about her Olympics chances.

Maybe so, but I must say, I'd personally be very surprised if she changes her schedule. Imho might as well stay in Britain and keep training on grass. If it isn't just hot air about how important the Olympic is, grass it is ...

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

I agree with Jimmie48. She should treat the hardcourt season as a new start. Separate from what happened.
If she goes into the USO & loses to someone like Mchale in round 3, we might be looking at Jankovic type career. Where the #1 ends and she is too nervous to win anymore

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

If Caro's ever going to be more than a footnote on grass and clay, I don't think returning to counterpunching is an option. That would mean leaving her fate in the hand of her opponent most of the time. A counterpuncher with a weak FH can't beat the best players on grass/clay, it's just not possible.
Caro's FH grip makes it hard to make big changes, but in for instance the last games vs. Sharapova in Miami we saw Caro flatten her FH some with pretty good results. The foundation of Caro's game will always be a strong defense but that doesn't mean you can't become an excellent defense-to-offense player, that's one of the things Paszek did very well today.
I think Caro is on her way to develop a bit more snap on FH and serve and that's a good way to go with Johansson. I'm hoping to see the start of something good from her come USO Series. Another problem is that she's somewhat predictable and easy to read in parts of her game, like serving and returning. I hope she'll gradually acquire the skill/confidence to change up her game more, like going DTL with her FH ROS on deuce side more often. It's not enough to hit good strokes if the opponent knows exactly where they're coming.

All good points and it looks exactly like the direction she is being taken. Didn't the man say technique then tactical refresh (mixing it up more) was the agenda?

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

I didn't have the opportunity to watch the match live so I just watched a recording. I feel depressed.

I think Caroline did play very well in patches, but she can't put the final nail in an opponents coffin anymore. I applaud her effort, she definitely faught her heart out, but once again it was not enough to get the win. I think it's safe to say that this year has been a total disaster so far.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

It was a good match. Caro had plenty of chances. Up a set & a break, match points, up a break in the 3rd, back on serve in the 3rd..

Caro plays a lot of close entertaining matches. Her level of play hasnt dropped much.
But her ability to close out a match is a big question mark.
