Well, normally I wouldn't go in there. I go weeks in a row without reading anything whatsoever on GM, but in this case I don't have a choice because if I don't check it out I don't know what everyone here is talking about.

An elite player shouldnt worry about draws. You have to get some results, which means beat some good players.
If you consistently dont get those results, your ranking will show it
The reason Caroline went from #1 to #8 isnt drawing Serena early.
Given Vika's draw at the US Open it could have cost her a grand slam. Caro was arguably the only player in her draw that she wouldn't have been favored against.

They should worry about draws if there's a top player that's seeded lowly or unseeded such as someone who's making a comeback.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

From what I'm reading in GM, there's still a chance Caroline is seeded 9th. Depends on how she & Li Na do in Rome.

But 8 or 9, still a huge drop from being #1 and holding 9 titles last FO.
Now she'll be 8 or 9 and just holding New Haven.

Given how Serena beat Vika in 2 sets, Vika probably wasnt winning the USO. And I dont think that draw hurt her career at all, because when she got better draws, she took advantage of them

Well, in theory a less favorable draw at the FO is more likely if she's number nine, but draws never play out like expected. By the fourth round some - possibly even many of the top sixteen seeds will already be on their way home.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

You never know how your draw will break. Maybe Serena doesnt play well. Maybe she loses before that round.
A player has to go play consistently well. Or else, what happened to Caroline.
You dont win titles and your ranking drops

She's only defending R3. She can improve on that even with a #9 seeding.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

Excellent delineation by Terjw on the difference between good-natured kidding and nasty,mean-spirited mockery, and Caroline's only 'crime' is that the longer rallies she forces are too taxing on the pathetic, infantile attention spans of this X-box-controlled,immediate-gratification generation

In principle, you're right;the 'You don't belong here with me' mentality is almost exactly like what we see from the bashers who accuse Caroline of ruining their WTA BB paradigm. However,in "blue's" defense,DIAH isn't completely innocent here. There has often been a deluge of critical posts that minimized Caro's previous accomplishments or pooh-poohed her prospects for success. To you and me,it's clear that there's no celebratory tone when DIAH critiques Caroline's game, but that might not be so obvious to everyone...and,despite his cordial personality,DIAH's criticisms even get on MY nerves sometimes...and I'M sort of a critical person............in case you haven't noticed

For now - I do think you need to lower your expectations. Everything you say is right but is now really the time to repeat it again. There was absolute despair with that ankle injury in R1 i Madrid. Somehow she hung and won. She then beat Barthel and no-one gave her a cat in hell's chance to win that. She lost to Serena having taken the 1st set from her.

So to me - she did much better than I expected so there is no need to adjust the goalposts because she didn't actually beat Serena and win the tournament. Yes - she does need to win more and win titles and not lose so many matches to players she should be beating to get back to where she was. But we are where we are now. Those tournaments are gone. And to me - it's a case at each tournament whether she does better or worse than can reasonably be expected.

Your arguments are that she hasn't played anything like as well as she has when #1, has no titles and she's dropped down to #8 or #'9. Well I don't really care about the ranking. It simply reflects how she's played. I want to see her improve - but we can't expect overnight miracles. She's a massive underdog if she plays Serena again in R3 at Rome. It would be nice if she could put in a good performance. But Serena is demolishing everyone (except Caro) right now and the real test comes over a number of tournaments if she can start putting a series of wins together.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

My expectations are already lowered. I dont expect much until hard courts after the Olympics. And even then, I think winning a Tier I or another USO SF will be very difficult for her

OK - but it's just I was really happy the way she played at Madrid. She didn't actually beat Serena but I was on an upbeat mood because she did a lot better than I expected. And I thought it seemed she needed to beat Serena to impress you. She does need to put together a string of tournaments where she does better (or at least not worse) than expected. So I was a bit upbeat after Madrid. Like I say just thinking one tournament at a time rather than overall how it's gone. You seemed to be down on her.

Take your point about a long way off winning a T1 but we are normally thinking exactly alike.

This forum should be able to deal with people at different ends of the spectrum as regards Woz-related optimism. People from within the forum calling others a troll is the sort of fragmentary approach that we could really do without, esp. given the number of intrusions into the forum from those who aren't Wozniacki fans.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

After Stuttgart, Madrid was much better for her.
But its the inconsistency, that I havent gotten used to.. yet.
But it looks like this is the way its going to be, so I accept it

We should definitely try to get along. No point in complaining about the bitching at GM if we end up doing the same thing here. If posters have a problem with each other maybe it's best to talk it out in private (by PM) rather than to entertain the tourists we get with it.
