But for a player who gets a walkover, the match might as well not have happened, so it doesn't affect them.
I think for the stats on the WTA website they should have wins-losses-withdrawals, where the last includes all the matches/tournaments the player chose not to contest - whether through injury or apathy. So zero-pointers plus retirements plus walkovers. This would give a fuller picture of actual form through the year. Of course it's not perfect, but the simple win-loss ratio isn't either.
Of course for pretty graphs to promote YEC I'm not surprised the WTA don't include withdrawals, as it's bad PR. But the overall stats on the website should be more accurate.

Well the player gets a free pass to the next round. It would be to complicate to add all that... You would have to include win through retirement.
