Is UNC a lil weaker this yr or is Texas much improved than what their rankings show?

For UNC, Zoe DeBruycker really hasn't been having the results she's been having in the past and both Shinnan and Gina are still recovering from pretty serious injuries (both had surgery). So currently UNC is certainly weaker than the end of last year.

How good is Corning? And which of the 9 players on the roster other than Edell is not on a scholarship; is it Corning?

Lots of injuries and teams having to draft in replacements: http://www.baylorbears.com/blog/sicemblog.html

FSU also filled out the bottom of their line-up with two walk-ons (I presume, apologies to Sanil and Simmons if not): http://www.seminoles.com/sports/w-te...012112aaa.html

No. 21 Texas 4, No. 4 North Carolina 3
at Billie Jean National Tennis Center – Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Doubles
1. Lauren McHale/Shinann Featherston (UNC) def. Lina Padegimaite/Noel Scott (UT) – 8-5
2. Laura Slater/Zoe De Bruycker (UNC) def. Aeriel Ellis/Cierra Gaytan-Leach (UT) – 9-8 (3)
3. Krista Damico/Alex Martin (UT) def. Haley Hemm/Caroline Price (UNC) - 8-6
Singles – Order of Finish: 6,5,4,2,3,1

1 #47 Aeriel Ellis (UT) def. #16 Lauren McHale (UNC) – 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8)
2 #44 Zoe De Bruycker (UNC) def. #119 Noel Scott (UT) – 6-2, 5-7, 7-5
3 Shinann Featherston (UNC) def. Krista Damico (UT) – 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5)
4 Cierra Gaytan-Leach (UT) def. #55 Caroline Price (UNC) – 6-2, 3-6, 6-2
5 Lina Padegimaite (UT) def. Gina Suarez-Malaguti (UNC) – 6-2, 7-5
6 Elizabeth Begley (UT) def. Haley Hemm (UNC) – 6-2, 6-2

UT is good, I felt it at NCTC, albeit just watching for one day
Well I guess Cierra beating Price is a surprise, but she seemed to play well against Burgic at NCTC..
4/6 singles went to 3rd
And I thought Ellis/G-L was #1 doubles material Well they almost made it

Re: Matches of the Week - 2012

so we can post non conference matches here too, right?

#16 USC 7, #57 UC Irvine 0
Jan. 20, 2012 - Marks Stadium
DOUBLES
(1) #3 Christian/Santamaria (USC) def. Byron/Holladay (UCI) -- 8-5
(2) Lao/Ramos (USC) def. Hammel/Smith (UCI) -- 8-3
(3) Pulido/Scandalis (USC) def. K. Facey/Goettsching (UCI) -- 8-2

USC wins doubles point.
Order of finish: 3, 2, 1

SINGLES
(1) #19 Zoe Scandalis (USC) def. Courtney Byron (UCI) -- 6-0, 6-0
(2) #42 Danielle Lao (USC) def. Kristina Smith (UCI) -- 6-1, 6-3
(3)#18 Sabrina Santamaria (USC) def. Franziska Goettsching (UCI) -- 6-0, 6-3
(4) #99 Kaitlyn Christian (USC) def. Kat Facey (UCI) -- 6-0, 6-3
(5) Gabriella DeSimone (USC) def. Marivick Mamiit (UCI) -- 6-1, 6-1
(6) Alison Ramos (USC) def. Brooke Schweyer (UCI) -- 6-2, 6-4
Order of finish: 1, 3, 5, 4, 2, 6

Surprising (for me ) singles line up for USC. Well, I guess Zoe could withstand
the barrage from the top opponents better than Lao...best defender, best server in the team..

Their debut matches and the freshmen actually finished the matches earlier than the veterans
