just finished watching season 3, and while i thought the first few episdoes were okay (liked shirley maclaine), the last two (including the christmas one) were terrible and an all-time-low for the series.

i don't mind it's soapiness, but then the characters and the stories between them have to be strong and interesting. there were soooo many flawed or even pointless storylines this season, it's hard to know where to begin with: bates in the prison, daisy having a crush on albert, ethtel, the new maid's flinch with branson, bates stepping fighting so much for barrow, resulting in him not leaving etc. etc. in the end i was left with the impression that the only way the writers were able to induce drama and thrill into the story was by birth or death, which is extremely cheap. killing off sibyll and matthew in the same season was a very, very bad idea.

i'm really not sure i'll watch another season.
