Certainly, I would respect her wishes if that is the case and if it is coming from someone in charge. From your description it doesn't sound like her father.
By the way, thank you so much for your report!

It didn't seem to be coming from Aravane herself. She didn't as much as send a single disapproving look my way, she noticed me and then got back to hitting. Also, they didn't mind me taking the videos. Nothing happened for about 5 minutes as I videoed them hitting. Then, this guy who had been sitting in a chair next to the court decided to come and talk to me. Aravane didn't go talk to him first, he seemed to just decide by himself. I was simply told by this guy that my videos should be only for my personal use, and not posted on youtube or anywhere like that. At first I wasn't even sure whose camp he was in either, since he wasn't even really watching Aravane hit and he was actually sitting nearer to Bogdan's end and bag. I had to ask the other girl's coach (Elena Bogdan) whose camp the guy who came to talk to me was in. Bogdan's coach was also shrugging to me like he didn't know what the big deal was. I'm not sure if the guy was simply not wanting to be posted himself or if it was something else. The whole thing is confusing. As far as I could tell Aravane didn't mind me and my camera at all, but this guy was uncomfortable with it. He was far too young to be her father. Probably in his thirties.
My personal guess: he was uncomfortable with being posted himself. But I wasn't even trying to video him... oh well.
Saw Aravane at the Albany courts today before her match. She was smiling and talking with Hlavackova, looking pretty happy. Didn't see that guy but I suppose he might have been around.

Re: Allez Aravane 2012!
Aravane won her 1st round quallie match against Lertcheewakarn 6-4 1-6 6-3
Not an easy match, but happy she could start off the new season with a win. Noppawan has been doing well
lately, winning 75k Dubai without dropping a set to Jovanovski, Kulikova, Halep & Mladenovic.
Pauline Parmentier is up next

That's very weird. At first I was going to say that maybe he was a tournament official who was there protecting the ASB Classic's TV rights or something, but since it just seems to involve Aravane, it seems unlikely. He sounds like either a manager, who would naturally be protective of his client's image and corresponding photo/video rights, or maybe fiance or boyfriend or something who wanted her privacy respected. Interesting.

Your guesses sound about right. Not a tournament official I'm sure. They all have uniforms. And he had the kind of accent I would expect from someone in Aravane's camp. Plus the other coach said he was with Aravane's camp. As I said, I think he was just uncomfortable with the idea that he might show up on youtube. It's funny, at the time he came up to talk with me the camera was zoomed in on Aravane and not showing anyone else.
Congrats to her on the win. It was touch and go there.
Fairly good draw against Pauline, who only won by a retirement.
By the way, happy new year everyone! It's already 2012 here in Auckland, with the fireworks at the Sky Tower to prove it.

Re: Allez Aravane 2012!
Two matches were interrupted by rain. 2008 ASB Classic runner-up Aravane Rezai of France was leading her compatriot Pauline Parmentier 6-4 2-2 while in an all-American contest Jamie Hampton was leading Irina Falconi 5-4 with a break when the rains came.
Qualifying rounds resume at 10am on Monday 2 January. Click here for the order of play. asbclassic.co.nz
