Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

And our first 15k is a downgraded 25K. How wonderfully exciting

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

The calendar really seems to suck this year. So few 25K and up tournaments.. All challengers in Europe have a crazy field. April is a mess at least.

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

Yeah, barely no challengers in Europe.
In Poland only one 10k and 50k on clay season.

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

Seems like the economical crisis is affecting the tournaments big time. No sponsoring from companies = no tournaments.

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

That's true. Example is Poland. All the Women's ITFs had a sponsor which was PKO BP Bank. When it withdrew, the tournaments got cancelled. And nobody wants to donate them now.

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

So the talk about the poor scheduling has me wondering how actively involved the ITF actually are in scheduling/creating tournaments. For example, would the ITF ever tell a federation "no, there are too many other tournaments nearby the same week, you must change the date". Do they go to countries with few tournaments and offer financial support for tournaments to be held? Do they do anything at all except oversee that the tournaments are held in accordance to their rules? Anyone know much about the process?

In theory the could, but...

It´s pretty obvious that they don´t.

Yes.

Grants are available from the Grand Slam Development Fund towards the prize-money to assist less developed tennis nations with the hosting of entry-level events professional events for men and women.

In 2011, 20 weeks of men’s professional events and 16 weeks of women’s events were assisted with the prize money.

But focus is mostly on juniors and developing infrastructure.

Interesting. I guess ITF isn't such a wealthy organisation itself....

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

Thanks Meelis

While of course it's great and noble to focus on building infrastructure and developing tennis in poor countries, they really should put some more energy into supporting existing pro events and trying to organize with the federations a more balanced schedule. Especially now in rough economic times, when sponsors and federations are much more likely to drop women's tennis tournaments than men's.

Re: 2012 ITF Calendar

In Spain (and I guess other countries) most of the $$$ for tournaments come from the National Federation. If they had to rely just on sponsors maybe just a couple of tournaments would be held these days

Actually, Spanish Federation spread the money all over Spain so that's why you many $10K in Spain but barely any $25K or above. National Federation helps to create the $10K. Anything higher comes from sponsors so you see how the calendar looks
