Vera Dushevina Cheering Club !!!!!!!
She destroyed the World #1 Eva Birnerova 6-2 6-1 in the Grade 2 event in Luxembourg and is into QF dropping only 6 games.
Hopefully she will get to play Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semis.
15 yr old Vera..... power/strength /height and great groundies with a pretty good serve.
Vera will make some waves next year.

Way to go Vera! Eggy, do you think Vera D. could be on the same level as Maria Sharapova and Dinara Safina? And where does Vera train? In Russia, or abroad?

Vera trains in Moscow.
Coach is Maniouhova Granotoulova .
She was part of U14 team that won last years World Junior Tennis ,
played in U16 team this yr and won all her matches.
She's definately very talented and I'd put her up there with Dinara but she won't get as much limelight as her for obvious reasons.

Eggy, you're openly rooting for Vera over Svetlana?

Not Openly rooting for her but I know she will give her a great match.
Unfortunately no bonus pts in juniors so Vera won't get extra pts for beating World #1 , or if she bt Svetlana #3.
Still top 100 beckons in her 1st big jr event

Eggy, I know you must be annoyed with this question , but how does she play? She literally killed all the top seeds in this tourney. I take it she must be very powerful to have beaten Svetlana and Barbora.

She's powerful , a wonderful 1st serve and heavy groundies, plus she can volley a bit as well.
She's a baseliner with DH backhand.
This was her 1st big junior event ( only others were small ones grade 4/5)
it will push her rank up around 90 places to around 80.

Congatulations to Vera! To beat such good junior players in the same tournament is a fine accomplishment. Especially when you consider how much less experienced she is compared to Strycova and Kuznetsova. Vera is a big girl. Let's hope she can grow into her body and use her size and power as a weapon. Udachi Vera!

about time this got a bump
Vera's done great since last on here and is now #26 on the Junior ranks after her 2nd big title in Germany at the weekend, following her QF appearance at the AUS OPEN.
Vera's gonna make a huge impact on the game in 2002.
Plus she also won doubles with Anna Bastrikova

What is the European Cup? I've never heard of it. And who was on the Russian team?
Udachi Vera! Maybe someday Vera will be on equal footing with Maria Sharapova and Dinara Safina!
