Peak Kvitova could possibly beat her, yes, or at least give her a close match. But we don't get to see peak Kvitova that often. Realistically I think Azarenka could give Serena a good match as well, but Serena has to get a low percentage of first serves in so that Vika's return becomes a factor and Vika herself has to serve her best ever.

It just sucks for tennis in general. Chances are that we get a really dull final tomorrow.

Come on, people, buck up. Yes, Serena has looked formidable but she is hardly unbeatable. I'm calling an Azarenka win (6-3 6-4).

Kvitova with her ability to hit 50+ errors? No way. Serena would more likely be beaten by defensive player who would make her play and rally a lot.

Perhaps we will see Petra and Serena play at the YEC?

Re: Womens Tennis in General

That could be interesting, indoor HC is Kvitova's prime surface.

I thought Canadians were supposed to be less violent than Americans. Who knew?

And to keep this on topic, I seriously hope Vika embraces her underdog role. That intangible helped Sam last year. All the pressure is going to be on Serena tomorrow. VikaSwag needs to come out big time!

The 2011 Wimbledon and YEC Kvitova is the peak Kvitova. Not the 50+ UE version.

I'm not talking about an average let alone poor Kvitova. I'm referring to a Kvitova who was at or near her best. That Kvitova hits bunches of winners with few unforced errors.

Even this version would not be enough to beat Serena atm. Even at her best Kvitova does make errors at important points and can be quite erratic.Serena would exploit that to the maximum.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I find it a bit interesting that Vika was pushed so much by players she owned (Stosur overall and Sharapova on hard court).

Yeah, but I don't think that's due to Vika playing poorly. Stosur played perhaps her best match since last year's USO final and Sharapova had steam coming out of her ears during the first five or six games of their match. She went for everything and everything landed on the right side of the lines. I think everyone other than Serena or Vika would have lost to this Stosur or Sharapova, so Vika did well to survive.

So, am I the only one that believes Azarenka is going to win today?

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Believe? Yes..I just don't see it. I have a very bad feeling, similar to Caro's SF against Serena last year.

I really hope Vika can at least make the match competitive but I'm not feeling confident right now.
