I remember Kratochvilova. She looked like she was Roger Daltrey's uglier brother. Roger Daltrey was the vocalist of the Who.

... I've gone off topic, just thought I'd show a picture of the above mentioned female ex world class athlete .. (According to wiki her name is actually Jarmila. So much for the Ludmilla parallel. ). EOM

PS and here's a young Roger Daltrey

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I just read over at GM that the MD in Madrid starts on Saturday already?

Eurosport doesn't seem to care, no coverage on Sat or Sun.... I wonder if we get streams at least or if it's another case of matches not even being taped.

I don't think there's any particular logic behind it or any reference to other women with that name. But the name Ludmilla (or Ludmila) seems to fit some poster's (stereotypical?) view of Czech women (like the name Heidi would fit a girl from the Alps and so on...).

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Have just watched a few games from the Estoril final. Not exactly a lot of spectators there. The play is abysmal with lots and lots of moon balling. Now it's gone into a 3rd set, so suppose Kanepi is fave for the title. Here's hoping the Spaniard will win though and no, I'm not watching any longer.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Barthel beat Goerges in 2 sets. Barthel & Caroline were born on the same day. Right now, who knows who is better?

Barthel looks amazingly talented for sure, she can hit the most crazy winners when she's on.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I'm glad that Li Na won her match. Jimmie should be pretty happy as well since one of his favorite cuties Cirstea won her match even though Goerges lost ("you win some, you lose some" Jimmie ), but I feel a bit sad for Zvonareva who continues to struggle. Looking at the score the Venus vs Halep match must have been an exciting one.

Yeah I'm very pleased Sori won, she's so hot and cold, bad loss at Stuttgart Q only to beat Bartoli a week later

5-5 in the TB and Sveta hands Vika SP by DFing. Quite typical of Sveta, sadly for her.

I think Kuznetsova double faulted to 4-6 in the 1st set tiebreak and then Vika double faulted right back.

These scoreboards are a bit weird with who they say double fault or hit aces in tiebreaks. On a player's 2nd service point if they hit an ace or a double fault it'll say the opposing player did that. But the match stat is correct though.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Zvonareva and Schiavone are really struggling lately. Sooner or later both of their rankings are really going to take a serious nosedive. I guess as fans of Caroline we can look at those two and draw the conclusion that things could be even worse.
