I've lost all my faith in Lindsay

She just isn't the player she used to be...Most of her big matches this year have been nightmares in terms of closing sets...I'm very disappointed now. She had her chances against Monica and, please don't tell me that she wasn't able to convert one of her 7 match points BECAUSE Monica stepped it up. I don't buy that argument. Lindsay is now a choker.

Monica has won similar dramatic matches about a million times in her career.

For example las summer against Serena (saving 6 match points), she had many incredible tough wins against Capriati, Graf, Navratilova, Hingis, Venus, etc. Don't be so hard on Lindsay, she was facing the biggest fighter of all-time! You can't call all these players chokers

if it was one match i wouldn't be so mad about it .
but it's happened against patty chanda maggie and now monica.

and it's not one or two but SEVEN matchpoints.
come on! i'm sure monica is a fighter but lindsay SHOULD have won one of them.
look at this

BP lindsay 3/14
monica 2/2
another example!

Don't be too hard on Lindsay, she has stamina problems. If you go and look at any competitive match since her return she breaks down in the second set. She gets tired. Venus bageled her. Serena at the Open won 12 out of 13 points. The one point Lindsay won was a doublefault by Serena. Her tank now, even with the weight loss runs empty.

also so she has lost two matches against kim after winning the first set. One of those was in the finals of Filderstadt.

Lindsay is pretty fit IMO. She has ALWAYS had a tendency to tire in third sets but these days the girls make her rally and run MUCH MUCH more. She cannot just overpower people like she could a year or two ago. Even last year she lost to Kim at Stanford and was pushed to the absolute limit against her in the championships in munich and had some three set losses to Dementieva and Hingis. Now there are even more players who can take her to three sets and who can really extend rallies.

Did anyone watch the match? I don't think the loss had anything to do with fitness personally, but rather her mental toughness. She absolutely gave up long before the match was over. And Seles stepped it up. I kinda felt bad for Lindsay because she had SO many chances, you could tell she was getting really down on herself. But I was disappointed at how she just quit trying... But that's just my opinion...

whatever... but Monica did step it up... all announcers said the it. the only question is why Lindsay allowed her to do that?

I'm not saying that Monica did NOT step it up...but that doesn't explain the fact that Lindsay wasn't able to convert one of her SEVEN break points...

Have a hunk of yourbody the size of about two of your fingers taken out of your knee, and see how long it takes until YOU'RE back to full form. Lindsay had MAJOR knee surgery, even if it was arthroscopic in nature. And she was out a long time. It gonna take a while til we see the form that made her #1. If ever.

IMO, Lindsay has lost her mental edge somewhat. This has nothing to do with her knee, or her stamina. I wouldn't say this if this was the only case, but this same thing has happened in her last couple of matches. She has matchpoint(s)and she can't convert for the win. It's choking, just like Serena was doing against Capriati last year.

Sorry, but you can't convince me otherwise. 7 match points and she had 4 in a row in the tie break. This is not the Lindsay I know. IMO, this is not taking any credit away from Monica but it's just stating the obvious.

Lindsay's condition is different from Serena's. Serena would go to making tremendous errors, and all out spraying the ball. She would only do this when the match got tight. She would stop being aggressive and start hitting the ball short in the center of the court. Lindsay also begins to miss, but she reduces greatly her effort. She quits running down balls. Starts watching serves go by her. Refuses to rally at all and ultimately reduces her shots to only one go for broke effort. She begins to tie her shoes after every game. She inspects the balls and any other effort that will give her some rest. I remember at the Open against Serena, she gave her all in the tenth game. She was running all over the place. But when Serena won that game and tied the set at 5-5. Lindsay did not on her own win another point. How can anyone explain Lindsay Davenport getting bageled 6-0.

She's been injured for eight months for goodness sake. She will find her top form again in 2003. But I sympathise, having seen my fave Jen-Jen lose eight matchpoints against Venus in Miami last year. It hurts!
