Great result for Ana!
For which challenger did she get WC?

She will make qualies. Another 6 players get in and she is only 19th. Im sure 13 won't show up

Re: Ana Konjuh

Ana's quarter at Trofeo Bonfiglio

(7)Sachia Vickery (USA) v Marianna Zakarlyuk (UKR)
Ana Konjuh (CRO) v (wc)Alice Matteucci (ITA)
Varvara Flink (RUS) v Ipek Soylu (TUR)
(12)Francoise Abanda (CAN) v Q/LL

By far the toughest one imo
But...Vickery is bad on clay, Zakarlyuk is beatable, Abanda is out of form, Soylu is more then beatable. I don't know how Flink is playing these days. But, all in all, Ana is able to get through this side of the draw.

Vickery bad on clay, Zakarlyuk beatable and Abanda out of form. If this is by far the toughest quarter, how bad are the other ones?

Re: Ana Konjuh

They are strong opponents on a normal day, but the circumstances are good for Ana
At least 3 out of 8 players here have the potential to get to the final. In other quarters they's only 1 or none

Vickery made semis of Orange Bowl, so she can't be that bad on clay

Re: Ana Konjuh

In the final she hit several aces (I think 6-7) but too much double faults as well. She had some problem with the ball toss, often very bad.

She even looks for winners too fast, directly on return...but she is so young so she will improve these aspects.

I couldnt believe she is 14 yo, her body looks like at least of a 17 yo.

Given that it was Kontaveit vs Putintseva in the final, its not that surprising

Re: Ana Konjuh

After her break-out win last week, Ana's ranking has soared and is now in the top 50. She went up 59 spots, from 102 to 43.

Ana is now the #1 Croatian girl, ahead of Mekovec (#56) and Vekic (#85).

More impressive, she's the #3 player born after 1996. She's behind only Bencic (#16) and Abanda (#28)--but they're 9-10 months older than Ana.

And to think Ana's very first tournament was well less than a year ago!

Re: Ana Konjuh

Oh, and Ana won today at Bonfiglio GA. She beat a local WC 62 62.

She next plays the #7 seed, Vickery. Good luck, Ana!

Let's hope it'll be played on clay
