Mixed Doubles starts in weeks two and you need to play 5 matches maximum. The chance that Anna is going to play beyound week 1 in singles is not too big, looking on her results overall in Slams. So there is no problem in my opinion.
Apart from that, some practice in return men's serve is not going to do any harm to Anna's game.
She has fun playing doubles and mixed doubles - so let her play and hopefully she will have fun in five mixed matches in Melbourne.

Good fight, Anna.. I guess that missing bit of match toughness was all the difference. Frankly, I am getting tired of this Belgian hen beating my girls. Hopefully Elena stops it in Munich.

Ys, you know the Russian girls are my favorites. But Kim Clijsters is just a better player than any of the Russian girls. You have to face that fact. Kim is only 18. She's going to get better. Kim has moved ahead of Elena this year. And if Elena beats Kim in Munich, it would be an upset. Kim is stronger than any of the Russian girls. Especially mentally. Yes, all in all, it was a good tournament for Anna. But Anna and Elena have fallen well behind Kim in the ramkings and as players. Anna and Elena are 20, which is not young is women's tennis. Twenty is young in all aspects of life. Except on the WTA tour.
We all like the Russian girls. Especially Anna and Elena. But they have alot of work to do. So Ys, get used to Kim Clijsters pounding the Russian girls. None of the Russian girls has Kim's mental or physical toughness. I'm sure even you would admit that. I hate to say it. But we will probably have to wait for Dinara Safina and Maria Sharapova to become the next 2 tremendous Russian girls. Anna and Elena may have missed the boat.

It is not over yet, it is only the beginning. Anna will be back into her 1998 mentality, Elena will finally make her serve a weapon, and we'll see. Kim Clijsters, the worldbeater, huh.. We'll see, my girls will be beating left and right this girl with disproportional booty. Even in this year, Elena can still avenge everything in Munich and Fed Cup. And she will.

i don't know about safina and sharapova being russia's new hopes just yet. anna and elena still have a lot of talent and potential. it's a shame that anna's year has been a total wreck. but she'll be back next year and i think she's only gonna improve. elena on the other hand, just needs to improve her consistency. she has good strokes already and has a smooth style of playing. the only thing is that she can play an amazing match one day, and then a poor one the next. yes, 20 isn't that young for women's tennis anymore. but it's still not considered old. they have the time to get it all together and win tournaments, which seem to be something russians (except myskina) lack.

hubby?? marshmellow, we are so sure of that are we???
Do you know something, the rest of us don't, perhaps she is, perhaps she is not??
But whatever the situation, you are right about him playing better when she is there..
I wonder is she was there last night.. 8-3 but only ONE assist.. she must not have been there.. If that effort is anything to go by

Hubby???
I'm sure Anna declared officially for the press that she isn't married. The rumours of her marriage with Federov were all invented.
hehe....that one word i inserted really got some replies..... let's just put it this way.... being a detroit red wing fan lets me know something....hehehe....
ok, im gonna go shush now....woudn't wanna imply something now.......dumdidooo.....
and yah, only one point in that 8-3 win.... i guess that'll have to do when you've got teammates like he does....
besides with the 4-2 win today (where sergei shot the clincher), he extends his three game point streak....

Great news for Anna , she has got her Gold Exempt Player Listing for 2002
Now she doesn't really have to worry much about not getting into tourns.
