Why is Dokic still a mixed bag of results?
Jelena had yet another first round loss yesterday and what I am trying to figure out is why she is still having a tough time with consistency?
Ok she has won a title which was a big moment for her and she was a finalist in another. But she still isn't able to do this week end and out.
So what is it that she is still struggling with and will she get to more finals before her career is done?

Commitment issues. I suppose. Also, no flexibility in game play.

I think her fans should just be glad she is able to play top 100 tennis again on a fairly consistent basis. She is never going to be the player she was in 2001 again.

Re: Why is Dokic still a mixed bag of results?
Even at her best, Dokic has never been consistent. In her best years on tour(2001/2002), when she reached her career high ranking of 4, she had 26(!) losses in the first or second round of tournaments. However, she also won titles (Moscow, Tokyo, Rome, among others) and had wins over players like Mauresmo, Clijsters, Martinez, Coetzer, Sanchez Vicario, Dementieva, Seles, Henin, Myskina, Capriati, and Hingis scattered between terrible losses.

Re: Why is Dokic still a mixed bag of results?
There are multiple factors. She's not ever going to be consistent day to day because of how high risk and inflexible her game is. She also has problems in her approach to the game, attitude and motivation which cause problems in consistency with results.

She seems to take long breaks between tournaments and not train or eat too much junk.

I saw a bit of her last month on tennis channel and i thought girl looked HORRIBLE. Fat, pasty, and beat up. She used to be a cute kid... wtf happened?

I hope someone gets to her and tells her to get in the best shape as possible in the last part of your career. But Jelena is so stubborn, and her father was the last person who would ever tell her what to do.

Consistancy was never really her biggest strength.

Re: Why is Dokic still a mixed bag of results?
I read an article online recently about Dokic and it said something like "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That's a problem for Dokic." I read in my psych book like a week ago that that's a problem experienced by a lot of abuse victims. Consistency was never her bag to begin with, but I feel like what her dad put her through has taken a serious toll on her mentality.

Re: Why is Dokic still a mixed bag of results?
She insists on taking months off at a time and purportedly does no work or training at all during those periods. When she has momentum on her side, she does build consistency (which she's proven these past few years). But as she chooses not to play a proper, professional schedule, this just doesn't happen very often.
The reasons behind her lack of motivation are most likely depression and the residual effects of her father's abuse.

Oh, and the one dimensional game argument is pretty tired when you look at all the other girls these days.

She's not very talented, sorry to say. Plus she doesn't have a second serve.

She's fat, lazy, and out of shape. She's lucky to be considered a very mediocre top 50 player atm and she's very lucky to have fluked a slam QF a couple years ago and win a singles title, but now it's time for her to fade away back into the ITF's.
