A link to a tweet? Why not just RT it? Weird.

Her Twitter skills must be rusty .

Seems like the absolute minimal amount of effort to her tweet--like she's allergic to it or something. Whatever scared her off Twitter must have been pretty nasty.

Yeah, Rittner tweeted just the link as well, they probably all got a mail from the DTB to spread that and she couldn't be bothered to actually navigate to the tweet and RT it.

Re: Julia Görges Interviews and Twitter thread

From her hometown paper, the Stormarner Tageblatt (http://www.shz.de/lokales/stormarner-tageblatt/

Just an excerpt from her Bild interview, but her wrist injury doesn't even rate a mention. I find it difficult to understand the lack of interest her hometown paper has in her career.

Re: Julia Görges Interviews and Twitter thread

Small local newspapers in particular are hurting big time, they usually have barely any staff left. So most likely they just went with the summary of the article by a press agency (either SID or dpa).

Maybe the newspapers are hurting big time because they are not carrying enough interesting local interest stories....vicious cycle.

Bad Oldesloe is similar in population size to a town just south of where I live. If we had a (once) top-20 ranked professional tennis player with Julia's story, the local newspaper would be plastered with articles about her. What went wrong? (Americans love a good adversity story). Also: interviews with everyone in town who know her, an exposé on the ludicrous Dr. Broccoli, and a sidebar article on her switch to Fila from Nike (sports apparel is taken very seriously here).

Is this a case of ignoring her because she's not doing well?

Re: Julia Görges Interviews and Twitter thread

Something like that is just not common here, I doubt that they were following her too closely when she was doing well either. I guess that's a cultural difference and the newspaper of the next-closest bigger city (Lübeck), which probably still has an actual writing staff, has covered her quite regularly (but not nearly as closely as you described), and they did have an article about her year, but it's not online, so no idea if they had any further information.

Training in Lehrte (near Hannover)

Quote:

- Will train there until 27th November, flying to Melbourne on 2nd December
- Will do an exho training there with local kids

I'm going to assume that surface similarity is the main reason for training here and that "joint-friendly" is just a description promoted by the hall itself (to appeal to the knees of all those ageing housewives). For Julia, one joint to worry about is enough....

The article makes it sound like a quote from her, but in another article about that gym by the same author it's attributed to the owner of the place. AO uses Plexicushion, nothing joint-friendly about that, so I'm guessing its just PR-speak by the owner.

Goerges returns to Auckland WTA tournament

Germany's Julia Goerges will return to Auckland's WTA tennis tournament next year along with Czech Republic doubles champion Andrea Hlaváčková.

This year's second seed, Goerges and went on to the fourth round of the Australian Open and the third rounds of the Indian Wells and Charleston tournaments. She and Hlaváčková have been awarded wildcard entries to Auckland.

Hlaváčková arrives on the back of an impressive 2013 doubles season, winning the US Open in both the mixed and women's events, the semi-finals of the French Open with Lucie Hradecká, and the Wimbledon quarter-finals, also with Hradecká.

She was also runner-up at Bad Gastein this year, while 2012 saw her bring home an Olympic silver medal, losing the final to the formidable Williams sisters.

The two wildcards join seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, Venus Williams, former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion, Ana Ivanovic, New Zealand No. 1 Marina Erakovic, British No 1 Laura Robson, and top seed, Roberta Vinci.

Goerges, Hlavackova given cards for Classic

German fan favourite Julia Goerges has received a wild-card entry to next month's ASB Classic tennis tournament in Auckland.

Goerges was second seed for this year's event, but lost in the second round to Swede Johanna Larsson and suffered a frustrating year where her ranking dropped from 18 to 73, albeit her fifth straight season in the top 100.

She has been beaten in the Auckland doubles finals the past two years and has two WTA titles (Stuttgart 2011 and Bad Gastein 2010) to her name.

Czech Andrea Hlaváckováwill take the second wild-card spot after an impressive 2013 doubles campaign, winning the US Open in both the mixed and womens events.

She combined with compatriot Lucie Hradecka to win the 2012 Auckland doubles title and later that year, the pair finished runners-up to Serena and Venus Williams at the London Olympics.

These two wild-card players join a stellar tournament field that includes seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, Venus Williams, former world number one and Grand Slam champion Ana Ivanovic, Kiwi ace Marina Erakovic, British number one Laura Robson and top seed, Roberta Vinci, ranked 14 in the world..
