Mmm, well. A lot of people here watch tennis just because of Nadal, so "tennis writers", if they even exist, would mainly write about him and his struggles against Djokovic. There's a lot of ignorance about women's tennis after Conchita and Arantxa, and the only known players are Sharapova (for the wrong reasons) and Serena, probably. People might know players like Ivanovic, Wozniacki or Azarenka, but mainly for the wrong reasons too. (Though I'd say Azarenka is respected tennistically speaking).

They have been reporting Petra's wins throughout the year. Her Madrid victory was considered a surprise, and Wimbly too as Sharapova was the famous one and was supposed to win. But a fair amount of people who actually bothered watching the final, were VERY impressed with Petra's game. Obviously

Now she's established as a young star with a bright future by the press, but she's really only known by tennis fans. If you're thinking about special articles written about her or something, I don't think so. Tennis writers basically echo the news they get and put it in spanish. They don't really analyze or give an opinion as tennis experts, because they aren't And they probably don't even care. Tennis and every other sport are huuuuuugely overshadowed by football (soccer) here.

Thanks for the information.I knew it wasn't the most popular sport, but at least there's a decent core of tennis fans in Spain which has more tournaments than even some much larger countries.

Even though Acapulco is well-liked by players as an MM that pampers them,Petra has never visited us there---she hasn't even entered any ITFs in our country(maybe she played here as a Junior)---so it's pretty unlikely that she'll ever come NOW...unless she goes to Cancun on vacation. Our other tourney,Monterrey,is a rich folks' town but there was a casino massacre a couple months ago as part of a drug cartel rivalry,so Petra probably won't be using any of her MM exemptions there, either. Our TV coverage of women's tennis is pathetic for anyone without a pirate dish(not hard to find here);however,Petra is a big shot now so,aside from the feeds we can get via Web,I can watch her as a featured player at Slams

Well,if your poster flag is any indication, you live in one of the few countries where women's tennis is actually more popular than soccer/futbol(we're only counting naturalized Americans and not foreigners who are living there temporarily).

Though I'm rarely impressed with how the U.S. influences the world around it,women's sports have been promoted there very, very well, and Petra's legendary countrywoman,Navrat, found refuge there in the Soviet Bloc days.Would love to see a Champion Petra at the forefront of a new era of marketing and success for the WTA

Replace Cetkovská with Domi Cibulková and you have a hypothetical Czechoslovakia Fed Cup team

Sure, I can't complain. At least we have a PM event, so they are all forced to come I plan to go to Madrid to watch Petra play next year.

I heard about the casino massacre... I hope Petra goes there some day though. People seem to be more interested on womens tennis than here. But I'd rather she went to Acapulco, as Monterrey is Pavs' sanctuary

You getting very tired of being attacked, not having tennis to watch, or both?

So try some of the full matches (unless you watched those to) on PetraKvitova'sFanClub on Youtube?

A lot of times, when you watch the full matches, you get a different perspective (if you have the time, patience and can stay awake), than by just watching the highlights.

I actually was pleasantly surprised for example, how well Petra played (even in the second set that she lost 6-2), against Serena at Wimbledon last year.

Though I had seen the match initially, Serena lovers tried to convince me it was worse than I remembered (though I suspected that wasn't true). But after looking at the full match, I realized that Petra played just as good if not better than I thought, but still had areas of improvement, that she's already addressed, corrected and/or is working on now. Plus, as good as they are, you miss things from the highlights (like timely errors, and good shot making, where the receiver gets a racket on the ball, but it doesn't make it over the net; so it probably won't make the highlight reel).

Petra did a lot of good things (serve, return, volley, ground strokes). And Serena won that match, strictly from her first serves, and Petra errors (Serena 67% 1st, Petra 51%; Petra missed a easy sitter, up 5-3, 40-30, to close out the first set, and other silly errors). Petra clearly won the battle off the ground, returned and served well. She wasn't smoked. That's an honest assessment.

Her full match against Mayr at Linz, was a very interesting match on PetraKvitovaChannel, as well. You actually got to see Petra's transition from being in not so great form; to being INFORM; as it was a third round match and Petra was just rounding into form. It was certainly a near miraculous transition from the first to second set, along with Simon Reed's crazy Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde commentary. Thank god, the always excellent and Petra knowledgeable-loving Sam Smith was in the booth, to offer balance, Petra's history and perspective.

I also watched the full match with Zvonareva in Tokyo there, as well. And the most interesting/positive thing I noticed (Kinda like watching Petra with Serena match at 2010 Wimby) was Petra served exactly the same way when she was 5-1 up, as she did when she lost the lead (in the first) and in the second set. Petra just didn't put away Vera's returns and flubbed her ground strokes. Vera did nothing on Petra's lefty slice serve out wide. She just tried to get it back in the court (as she did in the first set, when she was down 5-1), but Petra blew most of them, as Vera tried to run to the spots/play harder.

Speaking about Tokyo, you can also watch the Petra vs Masha match (up until it was stopped 4-3 Petra).

And of course you can watch the full Wimby matches on their sister site, PetraTheWimbyQueen site.

And no; I'm not affiliated with them. Lol. There just one of the few sites that show the full matches. All in all; you learn a lot watching the full matches, and have a better appreciation for Petra's timeline, growth, deficiencies, temperament, competitive nature, and match dynamics.

The time also goes by a lot faster than a highlight, if you're trying to kill some!

Petra Speaks!: Poses For Chic Photos, Denounces New Book, etc.

Posted this on GM already; cause this is a current headline on Tennis.com

Seems like Petra Kvitova, the Greta Garbo of the WTA, all of a sudden has a lot to say (or now the American media is paying more attention to what she has to say to the Czech press, as the new season draws near, for a story). Hard to know how bad she criticized the new unauthorized biography, cause the translation wasn't the best. Czech members? Come Clean please? How bad is this? Lol

Petra Kvitova poses for chic photos, denounces new book
- Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Quote:
Petra Kvitova Suffice it to say, Petra Kvitova is relentless.

The Czech sensation and world No. 2, within range of a top-spot take down in early 2012, was recently anointed—as if there was any doubt—this year's ITF world champion in women's tennis. She also has a glamorous photo spread in a native publication, iSport. Everything is illuminated: See her well-lit shots here. For those who have wanted to see the no-frills girl sporting various caps and vests, bags and dresses, this gallery's for you.

Kvitova, unaffected as ever, had this to say: "This photo shoot for me was new and I must say that I thought it was pretty tired." She noted that the five-hour shoot, including makeup and hair, took longer than a tennis match. It took place in November and put Kvitova in a new collection of dresses from designer Steilmann. Honest to a fault, Kvitova said, "It does not seem it, but to hold some poses and set [oneself] as a photographer wants is quite challenging. I must say that the role of tennis players I like more than the role of models."

We're not so sure the poses are as "seductive!" as the Czech pub claims, but the piece serves to shed some more light on Kvitova's mindset on fame and the accoutrements that go with her wham-bam success in 2011. The "Lightning Lioness of Fulnek" (her hometown), who is coming around to her good fortune, remains grounded: "I still prefer to wear jeans, T-shirt and sweatshirt, but I must say that I've got rather more elegant fashion [now]."

Kvitova also took to task those behind a new biography on her life. Her Facebook page had this roughly translated, subtly funny statement: "Watch out, as a Christmas present we do not recommend this book! ... [T]he book Queen Jane was created without any cooperation with Petra Kvitova and any of [her] managerial and team or family. ... 'My own high-quality original ... biography will have to my fans still wait a few years! ... I still have enough time. Before that book I'm warning because I don't want my fans ... disappointed ... and then get to the information that they have the correct memoirs contain. The issue is but a few years time, I haven't thought about it...'"

Photo shoots and publishing drama aside, it doesn't seem a question of "if" but rather "when" she will ascend to the WTA's throne. In doing so, Kvitova will relieve those forever kvetching about Wozniacki'

href='http://www.tennis.com/players/player_info.aspx?player_name=Caroline+Wozniacki' target='_top' >Caroline Wozniacki's fiendishly consistent and yet Slam-less ways. What do you say, No. 1 with a bullet forehand by March?

Do you really feel that we're,as a country, bigger tennis fans than Spaniards?Unless it's a Slam or one of our two tourneys,TV coverage is virtually non-existent here(it's either web feed or satellite dish). You may have been joking somewhat about Pavs and Monterrey--sure,she's a good young player but she's still often erratic and I don't think that Petra should fear her, really. You realize, too, that they are different surfaces, don't you?(Monterrey being hardcourt and Acapulco red clay)Like I said,it's hard to imagine Petra's ever coming here aside from a vacation, but maybe she'll surprise us

nice find, Ex

yesterday I noticed someone uploaded the full match of Wimbledon final in HD, but I'm not a fan of that particular match myself

speaking of Sam Smith, it reminds me of the Kvitova/Stosur clash at Rod Laver this year, with Sam Smith and Rennae Stubbs commentating on Channel 7, still my favorite
