I really don't think this is the reason for playing that badly. Maybe for the few problems at the start, but she practiced so much, she was able to play for three sets. I think it was much more a mental issue than a fatigue issue.

How hard is to take a pill when you can't sleep and you know that you have problems with that.

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

Petra, what lame excuses... because she didn't get a good nights sleep, your kidding me. I've seen Federer play entire tournaments with a virus and win.

I can't believe she is just dismissing this match as 'just on of those things'... it was an awful performance, one of the worst i've seen, how can she possibly improve on her faults if she doesn't even acknowledge they are there.

One good thing from that interview, that she's staying positive but almost to the point of deluding herself there is nothing wrong.

Surely her coaches have pointed out to her all issues with her game in that match, it's like all her problems amplifies in that match and she acts like it's all OK.

I agree. "What a lame excuse by Petra".

I agree, on Petra's Laissez-faire attitude ("dismissing the results"). But how is this any different than the past?

Yes, it's Petra self delusion.

I see, you still believe her coach (can't say coaches), provide her proper analysis, self evaluation and criticism.

No, he and Cernosek, are part of the problem. They're enabler's of Petra. There is nothing excellent, immediate, pressing (in nature), or world class about Petra's team in the least.

On your last two points, I'm not too familiar with her coaching situation, but it doesn't sound good for such a talent.

Well said.

But coaches? She is glad to have one coach.

Oh Gosh Venus [In Furs].

I'm sorry you don't know.

But you are correct. It's is sad, for a talent such as Petra indeed. It's also very embarrassing. Her "team (if you can call it that)", is beyond words. And not even worthy of a top 20 player. And to make matters worse, Petra doesn't seem to care, and is quite comfortable with it. It's been this way for a while.

A shame.

Actually, on a funny note, the most shocking thing about her team is that the only one who seems to do his work correctly is Shifty as her official video coach.

And yes; "what coaches; mind you specialist, experts, proper mentors and advisors")!?

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

This is my last post in this forum. I really don’t belong here. I am just a tennis fan, have always been since I was a kid though I don’t have any expertise in tennis. I just came here out of my love (what else should I call it) for Petra. But I feel people here are strictly concerned about her results and performances only (fair enough, after all it’s a tennis forum). But somehow I am unable to restrict myself to it.

I loved her not only as a tennis player but also as a person. I liked her for not only how she played the game but also because of her distinct personality. I loved Petra the player, but loved even more Petra, the person. Everything about her appeared so lovable. Her on court demeanor – a girl who would never argue with the chair umpire or a linesperson, who would always shake hands with her opponent with a smile even after a defeat, who would never create any injury drama to distract her opponent’s concentration like so many other players do. Off court too, she always smiled in her press conferences, always so nice with journalists, fans. I loved the way she said ‘matcheez’ and her uninhibited use of ‘the’ made her look so cute. Her behavior did not change a bit even after such a successful year in 2011. I so much loved this genial and charming personality of hers. She had this amazing game, there was finally someone who could match the firepower of Queen Serena. She just pojded past her opponents in 2011.

But her deeds lately have been so unlike her, so un-Petra like, that I am unable to digest them. Until a few months back the only things that pissed me off were her erratic performances. But now I am more concerned about her life. I just fail to understand that how could she get hooked up to a dirty fellow. Excuse me for bringing this up once again but let me say what I want to say as this is my last post in this forum. And I strongly feel that the choice of this guy is a reflection of the wrong decisions that Petra has been continuously making with her career. So I feel it's important to elaborate on it.

He is an ugly guy (it’s not his facial features that make him ugly, it’s his character). His facial ugliness is just the physical manifestation of his inner ugliness. There is a pattern in his relationships. He has had a history of seducing young and beautiful Czech or Czech born players. He never targeted Lucie Hradecka, Andrea Hlavackova, (for obvious reasons) and Lucie Safarova (because she never made it big). For him the girl has to be young, talented and a top 10 player even though he himself never achieved anything big in his own career, never even made the semis of any slams. The guy is a pervert. He has such a repugnant and filthy personality. He has no class. The fact that he managed to win Daivs Cup last year doesn’t turn him into an admirable person. Adam appeared to be a likeable fellow despite his age and all. They seemed very happy together. It felt so nice to see them together. I don’t know what happened there. But even if she broke up with him, she could have found someone else. Why did it have to be this fellow Petra, why not someone else?

He is not faithful either. Look what he did to Nicole. I feel for her. I know the blame lies with her too that she trusted this fellow. But when she cited lack of interest and motivation, as the reasons for leaving tennis, shouldn’t he have motivated her to continue, instead of turning her into a housewife. And now he has left her for Petra. Where does she go from here?

I always had this thought at the back of my mind that Petra could be his next target as she had all those attributes which he looks for. But I had so much faith in Petra that she would be the last girl to become his prey. But it wasn’t to be. And the ‘manner’ in which it happened and came to light was so upsetting. How can Petra get associated with a guy who’s still married and his wife happened to be Petra’s former colleague. And she did that despite knowing his history. One could never have imagined Petra of all girls to do what she did. All this was so uncharacteristic of her.

Petra has certainly lost my respect with this behavior. This is not the girl I was so immensely impressed with. I don’t care what he does to her career, what concerns me is what he will do to her character. She is losing her inherent goodness. And that’s most painful.

Many people here think that this guy would be helpful in her career. Well first of all to hell with such success which is aided by a dirty guy. And so far the results don’t indicate that way, right from Eastbourne. Did she also think that this fellow would be a big help in her career and is this the reason why she has associated herself with him? She has started receiving this help by getting his trainer. But what ‘price’ will Petra have to pay for these favors. I don’t know what she had in mind but if this was the reason then what an absurd way to try to fix your problems. May be her stubborn attitude of limiting herself to a particular club and its people and not exposing herself to the talents of the world has led her to this decision. I don’t know what she had in mind or maybe this guy has just brainwashed her that ‘Come to me, I will give you all the help you need, starting with my trainer’. It kills me when I see this Google result that ‘Petra Kvitova hires new boyfriend’s trainer’. The earth should explode before Petra shows any public display of affection towards him.

And as far as her performances are concerned 2013 has so far been worse for her than 2012. She has been consistently playing badly since winning Dubai. She has lost to players whom she hadn’t lost to earlier. She is unable to play two good matches in a row. And I feel as if she doesn’t feel as bad as she should after one of those erratic performances. She immediately starts talking about the next tournament, dismissing her bad performances all together. It looks as if she doesn’t want to look into her problems, doesn’t even acknowledge them, maybe she doesn’t want to. She always have her excuses ready, sometimes it’s a virus, sometimes it’s a lack of sleep, sometimes it's cold, and then asthma is always there. This ostrich-like attitude would never solve her problems. I don’t see anything improving or changing. She’s stuck with the same old people and she has added more bad influences to the list. Things are going from bad to worse. She needs much more dedication towards her game, her profession. Had her mind been totally in her game, she would not have felt the void after the break up with Adam. She did not need this fellow to fill that void. He was just waiting in the wings for such an opportunity, and Petra just played into his hands. Instead of this, to come out of the void, she should have put all her energy into improving her game, improving the mental aspect which is her biggest weakness. All the good things would have followed. I know it’s easier said than done but that’s where your support system should come in. That’s their job, to show you the right path, to channelize your energies into the right directions. For me, her team has failed her in all aspects. In fact it’s her mental weakness or lack of toughness that leads her to make the wrong decisions both on and off the court. And for it to improve she needs good people around her, new people. It’s a vicious circle and it’s all linked, the personal and professional life. You cannot see the two separately. I don’t know what lies ahead of her, but I can’t be as optimistic as some of the other fellows here.

Bye Petra.

Bye Petra.
Don't leave and don't Judge Bharatkt!!

Petra's human. And though I didn't read your entire post (I read enough of it), we just have to accept the good with the bad, as we would with any other human being, friend, co-worker, family member, mind you athlete.

Plus Petra can change. She's young enough to still discover herself. We're just along to witness the journey.

Whether Petra's dating Radek or not; it doesn't mean she's still not a nice person, fair, funny and lovable (despite the wretched association). And it also doesn't mean, that Radek's as bad a guy as we all think, know him to be.

We haven't heard much said about them lately (unless you read, heard, or saw something). So why make the move now? Hopefully, you'll be back sometime soon.

Either way; the best to you!!

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

PS: bharatkt

Remember/Look at is this way; Petra met her [then] Pubescent boy friend Adam at [Cersonek's] Prostojev. So when we really think about it (I'm not), why would we be surprised, Petra met her (ahem) older tennis player in the same environment, [or] at the same club?

It's not as shocking, when you think about it that way. This is especially true, considering Petra's taste in men, as we currently know it (and yes, I'm including Adam).

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

Petra´s mental coach „Psycho Petra ? No she is strong“

5 main areas of work
prevention of game collapse (down wave)
support of confidence
work with concentration
emotion regulation
control of body tension

mental level of 2011 would not be enough … she reads some comments and advices ... she is great in tolerance of frustration

5 Minutes With… Petra Kvitova

Defending champion Petra Kvitova is back in the semifinals at the New Haven Open at Yale having won three straight three-set matches to get into the final four. We caught up with the 2011 Wimbledon champion to hear about her post-match routine, shopping habits and more.

New Haven Open blog: Another match, another three-set win. Tell us how you cool down after these matches.
Petra Kvitova: It’s good to have a massage and maybe an ice bath. The most important thing for me is sleep. I have to do press and then I go for a massage and have dinner and just relax. The thing I love to do is just go back to the hotel and lie in bed and Skype with family or friends or watch a movie. This week we have been to Basta [for Italian food] and a few other places. I don’t know where we are going tonight.

NHO: What about your coaching situation, it’s different this week right?
Kvitova: My coach is at home with his girlfriend who is expecting a baby in the next week. So for this week Petr Pala, the Czech Republic Fed Cup captain is here with me.

NHO: Are you in charge of planning a party for the new baby when it arrives?
Kvitova: I’ll be at the US Open when the baby is born, so I will be busy [laughing]. Should I bring back something? OK I will buy something in New York then.

NHO: What about some trophies from the New Haven and US Opens?
Kvitova: OK, I will bring back the trophies. It could be a nice picture, right?

NHO: You could reward yourself with a little shopping, too?
Kvitova: Well, I’m not the kind of a person to always buy something. I like to go and look around and if I really want something, I’ll get it. But I’m not shopping for things like I have to have them.

NHO: What are you doing to relax off the court when you’re on site here? Sometimes there are long breaks between practice and your match.
Kvitova: I love to be reading right now. That’s how I relax during the lulls. Right now I’m reading this murder mystery in Czech. I love it.

NHO: Do you ever happen to think about the book on court? Does your mind wander?
Kvitova: I never think about it on the court, no. Sometimes on court I’m not thinking about tennis the whole time, but that only happens when things aren’t going my way [smiling]. I have to tell myself to re-focus when that happens.

NHO: Yesterday because of a rain delay you were warming up on court and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was hitting with her partner adjacent to you on the same court. Was that strange for you?
Kvitova: In front of the fans it probably seems quite weird. But it’s normal for us – we are around each other in the locker room and know each other’s games. We are always saying hi, me and Nastia.

NHO: Last year we did a video with you where you explained the meaning of the middle name of our tournament director, Anne Worcester, because it is a Czech word.
Kvitova: Kaspar! Yes, I remember! Anne’s such a great, friendly person with me. I have seen her a few times and she’s always smiling and is such a great director for the tournament. She is good to everyone – the sponsors, the players, the physios – that’s not easy. That’s a big thank you to her.
