Rank The Aussies!

Ive always wanted to rank the Aussies we have followed from now and those who played say 10-15 years ago. So I thought we'd try and pick a top 20 from say 1990-2005. It gives everyone an opportunity to find out info about players they may not know much about and/or those who played proudly under the Aussie banner, 10-15 years back.

We'll include the likes of Anne Minter, Liz Smylie who's best tennis was maybe played in the late 80's but still featured in the early 90's. I'll leave out Mandlikova and let the consensus decide on whether we include Dokic.

Firstly I'll compile a bit of list to ensure that we don't forget about someone significant.

top 10 - Molik,
top 20 - Smylie
top 30 - Minter, Provis, McQuillan
top 50 - Radford, Stosur, Pratt, Byrne
top 75 - Godridge, Jaggard-Lai, Dominikovic, Guse, Ellwood, J. Thompson, Faull, Field, Stubbs
top 100 - Drake-Brockmann
top 150 - Watson, Stewart, J. Taylor, Sharpe,
top 200 - Wheeler, Grahame, Barclay, McShea
top 250 - Dellacqua, Ferguson, Dittmann, Musgrave

Ive bet Ive left some players off or got some of the rankings wrong.

Try to stick with singles play - though in some cases to break a deadlock doubles may need to be counted.

Anyone care to have a shot?

The Minters basically werent in the top 50 in the 90's so scrub them

Kunce also got higher than 45!

Gail Biggs also never got to 200, her biggest win was over Tatarkova and she only just broke the top 300

If you're going between 250-300 add Van Elden!

Did Jo Ann Faull even crack the top 100 in the 90's?

Fair enough scrapping Liz Minter, but Anne was ranked between 50 & 60 for ages in the early 90's.
You may be right about Kunce I was thinking she got to about 38 or 39, but ended up going off the official wta site.
Gail Biggs definitely got to 200. I remember the exact week & thinking wow, she actually got there. I'm positive Ausboy! Don't question me there!!
Obviously I was going to forget someone!
As for Jo-Anne Faull - no she wasn't top 100 in the 90's. She got her career high rank in the very late 90's. She playd juniors with McQuillan & was 1 of our better players through the 90's. I remember in 1991 or 1992, she wasn't given a WC into the Aus Open even though she was ranked top 140 and only just turning 21 (imagine that happening now!). She ended getting in as a LL.
P.S Ausboy this isn't life or death so chill out!!!

I put this at the top of my list of players:
My top 10 as far as talent & longevity, but disregarding injuries would be:
So what I am obviously saying is talent wise. Say if you were watching them play & had no idea of their rank or previous results or injuries.
I've included Joanne Limmer cause she had so much talent, but never had a chance with all the wrist injuries. When uninjured she looked like a top 20 player.

I am chilled, I was just curious to know your source and I would like the result of this thread to be a 100% accurate list!

You are 100% right with Gail Biggs!! She cracked top 200 on 9/2/98!

It's gets difficult when comparing the likes of Jaggard, Evie, Guse, Godridge! Thats the fun of this.

My intention and sorry if I didn't make it clear was to just include those players who were still on tour in the 90's and onwards, so even if their best tennis came in the 80's we'd still count that. (tho compile your list the way u all like).

Probably I didn't want the likes of Balestrat and Turnbull who played a handful of matches in 1990 (Dianne finished her career in 90 Aus Open) counted as their best tennis was early to mid 80's. Smylie, Faull, Anne Minter where atleast thereabouts during the 90's even tho their best tennis was late 80's.

I'll try and give mine today hopefully.
