Re: Anna-Lena Grönefeld - Totgesagte leben länger! - vol2
Petkovic def. ALG 6/3 6/1
no trashing but not really a good match, serve is not as strong as it used to be, movement is pretty terrible and just too many unforced errors, some nice winners here and there but that´s definitely not enough to annoy top 20 players, although Petkovic really didn´t play great as well today!
She still needs to work on her fitness, in that kind of shape she can win smaller challengers and might qualify for GSs with a good draw but definitely not more, but that was clear before...

Re: Anna-Lena Grönefeld - Totgesagte leben länger! - vol2
She didn't play quite as bad as I expected...she actually had about 5093809850983 chances to win games that she lost...she just could never win the game points or deuce points, which is mainly mental. But her movement was bad. And she mainly just spun her serve in, and she was doing good kick serves to the AD court, but bad serves to the deuce court. But anyway, I think it was closer than 6-3 6-1...she probably couldve won if she had got one of the other Q spots (Not Hradecka, but the other 2 wouldve been good).

Re: Anna-Lena Grönefeld - Totgesagte leben länger! - vol2
It wasn't totally bad, but by far not good enough to trouble any top 50 player. Her serve was average (and she had one of the best serves on tour!), her groundstrokes were OK but far from penetrating, and her movement was as bad as always...

ALG will be at #202 on next Monday, should be high enough for the Wimbledon qualifying (Qualifying Cut-Off is on Monday)

Re: Anna-Lena Grönefeld - Totgesagte leben länger! - vol2
While watching the match I was worried about her (non-existing) fitness. Petkovic just had to wrongfoot (sagt man das so? ^^) her and she won the point. In longer rallies ALG had almost no chance at all.

Yes I agree...when the rally went beyond 4-5 shots you knew ALG was unlikely to win it. She moves ok once she is running side to side, but she is so slow to actually take off so as soon as she is out of position, she doesn't get there. Also, she is throwing the ball way too far behind her head on her serve, which is why it isn't powerful. But I watched her doubles yesterday, and she moved better and hit her serve better in that...she basically won every single game for the team in the 2nd set, Cornet was horrible. She needs to transfer the doubles confidence to singles.

I think the match with Petkovic says a lot about her fitness and confidence. She trashed those girls in qualifying, then got trashed by Petkovic. Clearly she's not at that level yet, and she knows it.

ALG is on 3 entry lists for ITF-tournaments in the week after the FO, but all of them with MDO (Main Draw Only).
$100,000+H Nottingham (Grass)
49 out of MD (Prio. 2)
$100,000 Marseille (Clay)
30 out of MD (Prio. 1)
$50,000+H Zlin (Clay)
30 out of MD (Prio. 3)

I wonder if she will choose to play wimbledon qualies, and this is just a fallback if she doesn't make that, or she will play these if she makes maindraw in them...

Wimbledon qualifying is one week later
So she could play one of these ITF tournaments and then Wimbledon qualifying.

Surely she wouldn't play the clay ITFs the week before Wimbledon qualifying that would be a big surface change

Realistically, how far do y'all think she'll get?
ETA: No sarcasm or irony; I'm rooting for her too.
