Pironkova is scheduled to play Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová in the first round of the GDF Suez Open in Paris, either on Tuesday or Wednesday. I am wondering what kind of physical shape Tsveti will be in -- there have been some comments about her being sick or having problems with her legs (I know she had tape on her leg at the AO).
At this moment she is neither physicly or mentally OK. Her game has nothing to do with the one from Wimbledon. Since june she has 6 wins and 11 losses non including the lost Fed Cup matches. She hasn't won two matches in a row since then. The highest ranked girl she've defeated is Voracova - 97.
At this moment from top 50 she is the tennis player that every girl wants to draw. Awful form, no motivation (or she doesn't show it), she doesn't have any goals. That's not the way. Soon she will be out from top 80 and maybe top 100. With this game I don't see nothing good for her in the tournaments she plays.
Tsveti drew Makarova in the first round, the lefty Russian ranked #41 who had a good run at the Australian this year (4th round). Looks like they will play Monday or Tuesday in Dubai.
It goes without saying that Pironkova is the underdog in this match, considering recent form. But I still look forward to these matches and hope she can turn this bad streak around. Otherwise, she'll be back playing qualifying matches after Wimbledon.
I almost can't believe it, but Pironkova beat Makarova 7-5, 6-3!
I guess this shouldn't be considered such a big win, but it feels like one given recent matches. Next up will be Svetlana Kuznetsova. Aide, Tsveti!
