Nice fight and great season Buckeyes. Shame the new ranking system will keep you from a bid to NCAAs!

What do you mean new ranking system? What's different about it?

Didn't they change it to make it more like the football ranking? Bonus for road wins, "best wins," stronger schedule, etc. I could be wrong though. Before March, coaches voted on the rankings and then the computer took over.

Re: Matches of the Week - 2011
Northwestern pulls out a 4-3 win in the Big Ten tournament final. Not much significance I suppose (regular season decides the conference champion, neither team needs the automatic bid), but may be the last time in a few years NU beats Michigan.

Not much significance? Guess you weren't there then or maybe you should ask any of the University of Michigan players how much the match mattered as they walked off the court.
Also, not sure about your final comment. I think that rivalry has a lot of life left in it.

Re: Matches of the Week - 2011
Singles
No. 1 -- No. 13 Maria Mosolova (NU) d. No. 7 Denise Muresan (U-M), 2-6, 6-3, 6-1
No. 2 -- No. 75 Belinda Niu (NU) d. No. 74 Brooke Bolender (U-M), 1-6, 6-4, 6-2
No. 3 -- No. 100 Whitney Taney (U-M) d. No. 78 Brittany Wowchuk (NU), 6-0, 6-0
No. 4 -- Kate Turvy (NU) d. No. 66 Sam Critser (U-M), 6-3, 6-3
No. 5 -- Rika Tatsuno (U-M) d. Stacey Lee (NU), 6-1, 6-3
No. 6 -- Linda Abu Mushrefova (NU) d. Mimi Nguyen (U-M), 6-3, 6-1
Doubles
No. 1 -- No. 9 Denise Muresan/Brooke Bolender (U-M) d. No. 11 Belinda Niu/Linda Abu Mushrefova (NU), 9-7
No. 2 -- No. 65 Whitney Taney/Rika Tatsuno (U-M) d. Maria Mosolova/Belinda Niu (NU), 8-5
No. 3 -- Brittany Wowchuk/Elena Cherynakova (NU) d. Sam Critser/Mimi Nguyen (U-M), 8-6
Order of Completion: Doubles 3-2-1, Singles 3-5-6-4-1-2
Got the chance to watch this match. Michigan has a huge fan base - very impressive. On court#1, Muresan received her third violation in the last game of the match to end it, leaving the crowd who doesn't understand the violation system kind-of-baffled. Denise took it out a little too much on the ball, court and her racquet and that lack of sportsmanship worked against her. She is a great player and hits a very clean ball. Niu and Bolender had a great match with Niu just playing a great 2nd and 3rd set to get the W for the team.

Would this win lift Northwestern's ranking enough that they could host?

its_a_racquet, were you there at the match? It was pretty disappointing if you are a Michigan fan. Michigan won a thrilling doubles point winning at 1 & 2 and then No. 100 Taney won at No. 3 singles with as dominating of a performance as I've seen all year winning 6-0 6-0 over No. 78 Wowchuk. Tatsuno won her match at No. 5 pretty easily as well over Lee to put Michigan up 3-0. I thought the match was going to be over fast. Then they ran into a buzz saw! Michigan will be fine going into NCAA's as they are a very talented team!

That post of mine didn't turn out so well, and I doubt this one will turn out any better. No, wasn't within 6000km of the place, and since they inconsiderately played it outdoors away from the cameras, I couldn't watch any of it (except via the live score ).
It just seems that at the moment Michigan manages one stellar recruiting class after another while Northwestern struggles to stand still, and so the balance of power inexorably shifts further in Michigan's favour.

Re: Matches of the Week - 2011
from ND website;
'he 23rd-ranked University of Notre Dame women's tennis team, for the fourth straight year and 11th time since joining the conference, captured the BIG EAST Conference Championship. The Irish held off a late rally from the Bulls on Sunday at the Courtney Tennis Center to secure a 4-2 decision over the team that earlier in the year defeated them 5-2.'
Will ND's ranking have a boost? Will soon find out..anyway other Big East teams
should step up, practically no competition for ND
#23 Notre Dame 4, #42 USF 2
Doubles Competition
1. Kristy Frilling/Shannon Mathews (ND) vs. Loreto Alonso Martinez/Janette Bejlkova (USF) 6-6, unfinished
2. Chrissie McGaffigan/Kristen Rafael (ND) def. Irene Rehberger/Ecaterina Vasenina (USF) 8-6
3. Jennifer Kellner/Julie Sabacinski (ND) def. Alessandra Bonte/Kate Parker (USF) 8-3
Singles Competition
1. Irene Rehberger (USF) def. Kristy Frilling (ND) 7-5, 6-3
2. Shannon Mathews (ND) def. Ecaterina Vasenina (USF) 6-4, 7-5
3. Janette Bejlkova (USF) def. Jennifer Kellner (ND) 6-4, 6-4
4. Kristen Rafael (ND) def. Loreto Alonso Martinez (USF) 6-0, 6-0
5. Chrissie McGaffigan (ND) def. Alessandra Bonte (USF) 6-4, 6-3
6. Julie Sabacinski (ND) vs. Kate Parker (USF) 6-1, 6-6 (3-3), unfinished
Match Results
Notre Dame: 16-9; National ranking: #23
