Saw this loss coming from the day the draws were out. Goerges could have had problems with both her wrists and still would have won today. The fact that she won this despite playing worse than she did at the French Open where she lost to Kucova kinda shows where Alex is right now.
Alex played a decent match, she had SPs in the 2nd so that means she was on par with Goerges at some point. Julia wasn't at her best but she played way better than she usually does in MMs, perhaps being in Germany motivated her a bit more.
I just wanted to say the same. I watched the first set and was surprised by the quality of the match. Goerges was the aggressor with some great winners from both wings while Alexandra hung in and counterpunched quite well.
There was one game which went to deuce multiple times and in which Goerges saved tons of BPs, so she definitely was motivated.
It's the random DFs that still cost her so many matches. Her second serve is actually indeed a second (first) serve for her. She can't play it safe or just throw it in.
