Mauresmo: "Poursuivre l'aventure"

Re: Amélie News and Articles 2011!

Mauresmo: "Continue the Adventure"

Appointed co-director of the upcoming Open GDF-Suez (from February 5 to 13), Amelie Mauresmo came back on Wednesday at a press conference on her appointment to the tournament in Paris. The former world number one has also raised the case of the number one French Marion Bartoli and her relationship with the team of France's Fed Cup.

Amelie, is it a real satisfaction for you to become co-director of the Open GDF-Suez?
I am delighted to become co-director of this 19th Open. For over a year since I ended my career and the first six months were quiet. Then, this idea has matured in the minds of everyone including my own. Of course, moments lived and shared with the Parisian public have played a role in this decision. Today I want to get to the other side to continue the adventure with GDF-Suez.

Specifically, what are your duties?
Nothing is defined and determined in advance. Everyone will find their place in areas that pleases them. I am present in Australia trying to convince some players to come to Paris after an Australian Open which will be completed sooner than expected for some. I have one eye on the wild cards too. But it will timely because we have not yet spoken. I am careful about what happens in Melbourne. Of course, it will help French players who have made a good run in Australia.

With your arrival in the organization, do you think this tournament will take another dimension?
Yes, I think it's a sign of credibility. It's interesting to get the eye of a player who has stopped her career while incorporating the concerns and priorities of an organization. Through this evening of Monday evening, the annual tournament in a different way to create something new.

"Convincing Marion Bartoli to play Coubertin"

Do you think the Belgians, Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters, will be keen to move to the Parisian public?
We were fortunate to have on the shelf Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters. When I was a player, I was always fascinated by this proximity to the Parisian public. Even if the two Belgians used to play on large central courts, but now they can communicate with the audience in a more family friendly atmosphere. Is really appreciable.

The French number one, Marion Bartoli, will be absent again for this tournament in Paris. In your opinion, is disrespectful on his part?
No, it's a choice. She has done for quite some time ago. Now I think she has her reasons for not longer compete. Personally, I find that unfortunate with what I have lived in Coubertin. I will try nonetheless to have a conversation with her to convince her. Then, she will choose and I will respect it. If she thinks it's better for her schedule to do otherwise, she will.

The younger generation is struggling to win, how do you explain it?
Yes, we feel that is is hard to take over. In terms of personality, it also cites the names of the oldest as Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters or a Serena or Venus Williams. It will take some time because the older generation is still present on the circuit. It is perhaps also because of her youth that are struggling to take flight. You can not go faster than the music and he needs time to express themselves better news.

"There is no divorce"

On Monday evening, you organize a charity event for the fight against cancer, it is important to you ...
Yes, this concerns the Institut Curie in which I was the godmother for many years. The idea being to gather for this combination the world of tennis and the arts. First, a former tennis player and an artist will play twice on the court. There will be a special ticket, hoping that the partners will meet in the boxes there to support the Institute Curie while seeing a nice show for the public. In the process, there will be a cocktail party for those who remain. For now, we can count on Yannick Noah, Henri Leconte, Guy Forget, Fabrice Santoro, myself and beside artists, Michel Boujenah, Michele Laroque, Kad Merad and Bob Sinclar who responded to this event.

The first round of the Fed Cup will be held February 5, divorce would it be consummated between you and the team of France?
Do not worry, we will follow the outcome of the French team but there is no divorce. Quite simply, the French go to Moscow and I'm bound to play a role in organizing the tournament GDF-Suez that I would fill with all my heart even if I would keep an eye on the results of the French team in Russia.
