Which Fluke Will Fall the Furthest in 2014?

Silverwhite (THA)

Singles Rank: 23
Doubles Rank: 1

This Thai fluke could be preparing for a huge fall in 2014. 2013 highlights in singles include a miraculous run to the SF in IW and winning the title in Toronto as a lowly ranked nobody. His doubles highlghts include a run to the SF in IW, winning the title in Madrid as a lucky loser , their first slam triumph after a controversial rain delay at the French Open, and another title run at the event in Toronto.

However, as many have noticed, he has a very questionable playing style. Much like the TF favorites Wozniacki and Errani, he is a known pusher. And like those two, due to his style of play and results, he acquired many haters and nicknames this past year - Silverfluke, Silverpush, Silverluck, Silverluckypush, etc. The list with a name like his has endless possibilities. Is it just a matter of time before this player runs out of gas? Will his opponents finally realize his tactics? Or will he prove all of his doubters wrong and experience the same success in 2014?

Fantasy Hero (ITA)

Singles Rank: 59
Doubles Rank: 2

This Italian Beauty is doubles partners with Silverwhite, however, his style of play couldn't be more contrasting. Fantasy Hero likes to pick random upsets in hopes of winning big - many know him as a brainless ball basher. His singles highlights include a triumph in Bad Gastein as a lucky loser and a run to the 4th round at the US Open. The asterisks surrounding those results cannot be overlooked: he was 3-18 in his last 21 mathces going into his title run in Austria and in Flushing Meadows he played a heavily taped and injured Inger67 in the 3rd round who is regarded as the far superior player. Like Silverwhite, his doubles highlights include SF in IW, title in Madrid as a lucky loser, title at the French, and a title run in Toronto.

So is Gaspa just another brainless ball basher who will fall drastically a la Rezai and Gajdosova? Or will he continue on in 2014 as a player to be feared?

Matthias (GER)

Singles Rank: 21
Doubles Rank: 159

This German Fluke went from grinding it out in the lowly depths of the ITF Challenger Tour to Grand Slam glory in 2013. Perhaps the oldest ever TT Slam winner, Matthias could be a favorite for this award. His singles highlights are quite minimal, because there is only 1. Prior to his slam run, he had never made even a final on the challenger level. In fact, entering the last slam, he was ranked a mere #141 in the world. Although once at the US Open, he showed such controlled aggression, annihalting his opponents left and right which ultimately allowed him to life the trophy. His doubles highlights include winning Osaka with fellow fluke, Soliloque. Did this old player experience a rare fortnight of flukes? Or will he continue his form in 2014 and be the oldest TT #1 in history?

Soliloque (FRA)

Singles Rank: 3
Doubles Rank: 68

Is this cake-loving fluke the biggest of 2013? Nearly being a rookie on the tour, this player saw much success this year, much of which came on the biggest stages. Singles highlights include reaching the R16 at the AO, a heartbreaking loss in the SF of the French and his ultimate title run at Wimbledon. Though these slam runs are very impressive, he has yet to assert himself on the WTA tour level where he only has 2 QF and 2 SF. Soliloque has also lost in the first round or in qualifying a staggering 10 times in WTA tournaments, including at the US Open. He also has some scrutiny surrounding his Wimbledon victory as some claim it was the biggest cake-walk draw to a slam in recent history. His doubles highlights include 5 challenger level wins, and a title in Osaka. Will this former #1 show his true colors in 2014 and fall so low in the rankings that he's forced to relocate to France and open up a pastry shop? Or will he be doing more awkward celebratory yoga stretches on the lawns of SW19?

CharmedRic (PUR)

Singles: 145
Doubles: 75

CharmedRic has been on the tour now for over a year, and despite his low ranking, some think he has far exceeded his potential and expectations. His singles highlights include a SF run on the ITF tour in both Orlando and Lexington and a surprising run to the finals in the Las Vegas ITF, home of the Red Foo Open. Although a final on a challenger level can be impressive, some say the competition was lacking. Players reported an apprehension of even making the trip to Las Vegas as they didn't want to be forced to listen to that awful noise that LMFAO fans call music. He did however experience more success on the doubles tour with 6 challenger doubles titles which includes the Challenger YEC, a tournament that was made up so that low level players can have a chance at a glorified title.

Is CharmedRic the Julia Cohen of TT? Did he fluke his way to his only final and left to fly from ITF to ITF in hopes of regaining his greatness that never was?

Xepher (HKG)

Singles Rank: 60
Doubles Rank: 126

Xepher experienced a 2013 that many would never wish upon their worst enemy, a fall out of the top 40 in singles and top 10 in doubles to where he is today, #60 and #126 respectively. Despite his low rankings, he did experience some success on tour. His singles highlights include a SF in Kuala Lampur and Bad Gastein, R16 in IW, and a final in 100k Poitiers. His doubles highlights include a title at a MM in Palermo and a title in 125k Taipei Challenger. Interesting to note that in the highly contested 3 set doubles final in Palermo, Inger67 had to play without his partner, New_ball_please, who was taking a Karin Knapp in the locker room.

This player is currently in the running for another award: the biggest TT disappointment of the year. However, is he truly the biggest disappointment of the year or were his results from 2 years ago the biggest anomaly the game has ever seen and thus still being an overachiever this year? Or does Saisai-GOAT have it all wrong and Xepher is in fact the true TT Golden Flower that just needs more time to blossom?

------

Now we have met this years nominees, which fluke do you think will fall the furthest in 2014?

This new year is sure to be an interesting one
