Mary, thank you for joining us, obviously you're disappointed with your French Open result?

Obviously it was sad, but you know, life goes on. There is always the next one and now I start preparing for real slams like Wimbledon.

Was it nice to have two weeks in France? after travelling for so long?

It was great, the crowed really got behind me, but...it wasn't to be this year, hopefully next year I will be able to play at more than 20%

You did stay in Paris after your loss and watched some more tennis, so obviously the loss wasn't too bad

Bey and I go way back so it was nice she could come and watch some of my matches, it was great though really.

This is your first time in Helsinki, how do you like to so far?

Its a lovely city, I almost can't believe its still light at 11pm, its crazy...I just hope I can win here

Speaking of such, have you looked at the draw?

Yes I saw the draw, at first I thought it was the wrong one...it looks more like a qualifiers draw for a $25K, but it is what it is and you can only beat the lessers who are presented to you

So its safe to say you're confident coming in?

I would say that, I was thinking of playing the tournament left handed so the other girls could grab a few points here and there.

Knokke interview with young starlet Melanie Oudin

AL: Hello Melanie, how are you on this fine day?
MO: Umm Im good thanks.

AL: Look here is a picture of you from the French Open *shows this picture*

MO: Oh yeah ok..!?

AL: Would you mind signing it for me, my daughters are huge fans of you!! *smiles creepily*
MO: Sure? *take picture and signs it*

AL: Hey Melanie how about you come over to my...*sirens begin and Andrew sprints out of the room*
MO: What the..??

*police enter and question Melanie on what just happened*

...Later in the day Melanie is seen looking like this, balling her eyes out

Q: Melanie can you please describe why you were crying in the lobby of your hotel a few days ago.
MO: Id rather not.

Q: Well we need to tell the public something about that!
MO: No. Next.

Q: So I heard you sprained your ankle on the clay at Roland Garros, how is it now.
MO: Still sprained idiot.

Q: And how are you coping with this injury?
MO: Well I just injured my leg today as well so obviously not very well. Thanks for reminding me you jerk.

Q: Oh I am very sorry I didn't mean to upset you! What are your plans this week in Knokke?
MO: I plan to play tennis.

Q: What do you want to accomplish here though?
MO: I want to be able to train hard, but first I need to rest my leg and ankle.

Q: So will you be practicing at all the remainder of the week?
MO: I just said I need to rest. I will not train again or play till my first match.

Q: Well by looking at you it looks like you've been resting a lot, maybe too much. *smirks*
MO: Excuse you what is that supposed to mean? Im a professional tennis player..

*Someone yells out.."he means you're fat"*

MO: Yeah thanks kid I kind of knew that!!

Q: You should really hit the gym more often.
MO: No I should really hit your face *gets up to punch the interviewer*

*Now Melanie runs out of the room with her security guard, runs into her room, and no one has seen or heard from her since*

Scratch that, 2 minutes ago she called and said she would still be participating in the tournament as long as she takes a helicopter from her room to each one of her matches!

Q: You're on a 2 match loosing streak in singles. Any worries in that regard?

SW: Well Paris was a bummer. I was really mad at first and then decided to take some time off. I didn't really want to be in Knokke to be honest so I don't care too much about this loss. I didn't put in much work this week to get my game back on track, so I'm not deceived. I feel I need to improve little by little heading onto Wimbledon. That's the tournament I want to win after all.

Q: Will you be playing Birmingham?

SW: Probably, I don't know yet. Since I lost early here I guess I will in order to perhaps get a seed at Wimby. I don't know.

Q: You still have doubles this week...

SW: Yeah but my partner is badly injured. We might win a round but that's it. I'm not expecting much from that one. Regardless, my mind isn't there so loosing could be a good thing lol.

Q: Are you in a good mood Serena?

SW: Yes I am! I'm just bored by this interview.

Q: What are your goals for the rest of the year after loosing early at the French despite having a great preparation?

SW: Win all the GS left and the Olympics. If I had to choose one, I would pick the Olympics. I'd like to win a GS doubles title and make it to #1. But I'm going one match/tournament/month a time. So no looking ahead too much, but I do have goals for each part of the season.

WATSON SERVES UP BAKED GOODIES





British star Heather Watson seems to be back on form this week, following a disappointing French Open which saw her bundled out in the second round 6-0 6-0 by Li Na. But today is was Watson's turn to deliver the dreaded "double-bagel" to her opponent, #3 seed Alize Cornet.

The last time the pair played was back in the Miami final earlier this season and Cornet won handily 6-3 6-0 so this was definitely some sweet revenge for Watson.

"I was so upset after Roland Garros but I came to Helsinki early and got back out there on the practice court and worked on a few things. I am feeling great this week and to beat someone like Alize 6-0 6-0 is just incredible, especially after she beat me pretty easily when we played that final in Miami a few weeks back"

"I'm into the semis now and Safarova is up next - she just had a good win over Venus so will be playing with lots of confidence and I am expecting a good match. Hopefully if I play well like today I think I can make the final - I would definitely love to try and win my 4th title of the season for sure"

Watson also plays in the doubles semis tomorrow. She is partnered with Venus Williams as her usual partner, little sister Serena, is playing in Knokke this week.

"It's great to play with Venus as she is #1 in doubles right now - it just seemed to make sense to play with Venus with Serena not here this week. Hopefully I can win my first doubles title this week as it would be fantastic to add that to my collection"

Watson: Thanks for asking... I had some treatment after Roland Garros and I has been feeling good this week - the doctors told me that I hadn't torn anything which was good news. I still have it heavily strapped but that is more precautionary rather than for any pain.

Bojana Jovanovski upsets Melanie Oudin in Knokke final


Former world number one Bojana Jovanovski couldn't have marked her comeback to tennis better. After the injury that caused several losses in the first round, Serbian star upset world No. 20 Melanie Oudin 6:0 1:6 6:0 in a match for the title.

It is great feeling to win the title after a long time. As you know after great start of the year I had injury for which I could not train, I was going to tournaments, but I was constantly losing in the first rounds. When I healed my injury I started with hard training but I could not recover pre-injury form. Now the hard work is starting to pay off and I'm happy because of that, Bojana said at a press conference after final.



We take opportunity and asked her some questions.

How do you comment on her claims that she was better in the final and that she deserved the title more than you?

She said that?

Score line is very strange, you've won the first set 6:0, then lost the second 1:6 and won third again with 6:0. What happened?

Well you know, I won the first set very easy, as expected since she has no weapons against me. Then I let her win the second set because I know that she is the biggest bitch on tour. I wanted to avoid her comments after the match, but obviously she was still talking nonsense. After that, in the third set, I again raised the level of play and finished the match very easily

You were number one, what are your goals for rest of the season, what you still want to accomplish?

As you said I was number one, but I've never won a Grand Slam. So I will try to win at least one and of course I want to go back to the top.
