Better player- Graf or Seles
Who do you consider a better player- Seles or Graf. Considering about 54% voted for Seles as a top 5 player all time I am going to guess Seles wins this poll.

To summarize years of threads on this topic: Graf tops Seles when discussing career stats; Graf also tops Seles when comparing tour-dominating seasons (88-89 and 95-96 versus 91-92); and womano-a-womano, Graf held her own -- and then some -- against what many consider to be peak Seles.
Yes, one of the great tragedies in sports occurred in April '93, but one can't do anything with Asterisks, What Ifs and Could Have Beens.
So any reasoning and knowledgeable enthusiast of the game would have to vote Graf.

There was a period in the prime of Graf's career when Seles was better in the slams. But you can't take that period and extrapolate to a 'might have been'. Martina Hingis won five slams before her 20th birthday. And none afterward. Had she suffered some tragedy in June 1999, what might we have said about what might have been?
What would Maureen Connolly have accomplished without her tragedy? What would Althea Gibson have accomplished if she'd been allowed to play all the slams in the prime of her career? What would Evonne Goolagong have accomplished were she not bucking racism in Australia?

Is this seriously a question? Graf, no contest. I'm not trying to knock Seles since she was an amazing champion for 92-93, but her problem coming back was all mental and she couldn't get over it and by the time she did better players had caught up to her.

Agreed, although there is a difference. Hingis was no longer dominant, Seles still was (very much).
