Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)
Time for Lisicki to go to 25k tournaments. Nearly one year ago since she won 2 matches in a row.

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)
It seems like she has no serve at all again, I mean, she got broken now at least 5 times, probably even more, against a player like Watson, that is just too much..
And when she has her chances, like in first set, she just cant take those and then it is difficult to stay focused after you wasted so many chances, like Sabine did in first set

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)

hopefully can get a clear head now, 1 week break and then another 75k tournament in GBR, there she definetly has to show more, otherwise it really looks bad for now, as I said, in such a weak field it actually shouldn´t be a problem at all for a player like Sabine to reach the final, sure, Watson wasnt the easiest opponent, especially in front of homecrowd, but still had to be beatable, I actually don´t know how sensitive Sabine is, maybe the death of her grandmother is still in her head too much, that she still can´t focuse 100%, but as I said, one week off now, then she has to show more...

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)
Not totally unexpected after the match yesterday. Don't think we should take this too serious under this circumstances. IMO Barnstable will be a better indicator for her shape.

She didn't had much match experience before the injury too.

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)
2010 is one disaster anyway for Sabine, started great with the win against Dementieva and after that it actually only got worse, so she was in bad shape anyway before injury, but she worked at least hard during her injury break, I think that she is fitter than before but that alone isnt enough, she just needs a few wins now to get some confidence back but as I said, even before her injury she lost to players like Shvedova, Brianti or Tanasugarn, so we will have to wait to see how strong she can become again at all..

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)
Sabine today (September 22) ends 21 years ... And what I could wish you, taking account of what happened today in Shrewsbury ... Health, happiness and above all strength and self-denial, to believe in the fulfillment of his dreams ... Maybe this day is not the best to say this, but sometime in the end MUST be good, must come the sun after the storm, must finally turn around a disastrous destiny of fate that still throws a log on the legs and allows you to quickly get up ... Sometimes you just have to wait a difficult time - I know that even from his own experience - that in the end fortunately lucky be able to smile at you... This requires a lot of inner strength and serenity, so that I wish you the best on your birthday ...
It's good in the future, when the evil has already turned his card, said, that it was at her sympathy in the worst moments ... I would wait for a moment like this........

yeah she was deffinately not moving very well, was a shame to see her missing shots and not being in position when forced to run.
|
still not enough confidence, still too careful on court as of her ankle injury it seems..

this was a pretty tight match for the 1st set, both dropped serve tamely early on and lisicki seemed to have some groove and the upper hand for some parts of the 1st set. but she went through patches of errors and got broken back serving for the set missing a short forehand. heather played consistent and was trying to dictate whenever she had a chance. the tie break saw them both drop shotting and this played into watson's hands. 2nd set lisicki got very wild and watson kept steady and came up with a few nice winners. by far the biggest crowd for the day...

Re: Sabine in GB (Shrewsbury/Barnstaple)
After Sabine defeated Caroline Wozniacki in Charleston last year and won her first WTA titel, "ARD" (TV station) asked if she will be new Steffi Graf, "Bild" compared her to Boris Becker ("Fräulein Bum-Bum") and FED Cup Captain Barbara Rittner praised her talent ("a top ten player"). At AO 2008 (qualified and lost in R3 to Caro) Sabine herself mentioned her goal: "number one in the world". Then QF in Wimbledon (defeated Caro and lost to Diara Safina 1:6 in third) her drama in R2 at Flushing Medows, her five months break after an ankle injury and a lot of very happy camper after a 6:1, 6:1 victory to Coco Vandewehge at US Open. Are we all too excited and do we all expect to much from her?
Playing professional Tennis is a brutal job. Sabine (# 90, 738 points), who lost her final in Luxembourg to Timea 2:6, 5:7 last year, was not offered a WC and has to play in qualifying round there (Tournament director: Danielle Coster-Maas: "Wir konnten ihr leider keine Wild Card mehr geben. Wir drücken ihr fest die Daumen, dass sie ins Hauptfeld kommt").
420 points (Luxemburg, Tokyo, Bali) are in jeopardy.
