6-1, 6-2 win

Guess I was worried for nothing. Huge chance for a SF spot.

Shahar will play Bacsinszky in the QF

in doubles she lost her 2nd round match against the 2nd seeds:
[2]Peschke/Srebotnik d. Niculescu/Peer 63 64

Re: Shahar's next tournaments in 2010 - Tokyo, Bejing

I like Shahar chances against Timea, if she beat her last week indoors (although it was way close)
However, on a Shahar bad day Timea has a good chance to win too.

Take revange for (former?) BFF Vika

Re: Shahar's next tournaments in 2010 - Tokyo, Bejing

BEIJING, China - Israel's Shahar Peer became the first player to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open on Wednesday, cruising past Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski in the first match of the day in 59 minutes, 61 62.

Watch live tennis from Beijing this week on TennisTV.com!

Peer, the No.15 seed in Beijing, lost her serve once in the match but broke Jovanovski's serve five times en route to the comprehensive straight set win.

"I'm very happy. I was playing very well today, very aggressively," Peer said. "I hope to keep going and play better and better every round this week."

Peer will play the quarterfinals of the China Open for the first time; she hasn't even lost a set yet, her most difficult match of the week so far being a 64 62 win over Patty Schnyder in the second round on Tuesday afternoon.

"I came here pretty late after Tokyo," Peer, who reached the doubles final in the Japanese capital, added. "I didn't start too well against Patty in my last match but played well the rest of the match, and I did that through the whole match today. I'm just playing solid and aggressive at the same time on every point."

See off-court photos from Beijing right here in the gallery!

Peer has won a tournament in China before, the International-level stop in Guangzhou last year, but this is her first time doing this well in Beijing.

"I haven't had a lot of time to do sightseeing yet this week because I came here late, but I did see a lot of things last year. I went to the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. I just said this morning it's amazing how many historical things you can see in this city, it's not common in other world cities to have this much.

Re: Shahar's next tournaments in 2010 - Tokyo, Bejing

Assuming that she can get past Timea, this tournament would be noteworthy in that I don't think Shahar is at a huge disadvantage against any of the seeded players left in the the draw. Given her current form, this may be the best opportunity she has ever had to break through and win a premier tournament. I realize that she is still a long shot, but opportunities like this come along infrequently and perhaps that alone can serve as a huge motivation for a fighter like Shahar.

I agree. I hope Shahar can get through Timea and even a SF result would be spectacular.

Re: Shahar's next tournaments in 2010 - Tokyo, Bejing

Shahar could not have asked for a better draw in a premier event. If this isn't a "cakewalk draw" I don't know what is.
Not that SF (and she should make it, Timea would be home by now if not for yet another Vika injury ) wouldn't be big even with this draw - the young Serbian beat two good players (even though both are slumping) and Shahar simply blew her off the court.

But as for a chance to take it all... everything without the WS and the Belgians is sort of a chance, but Shahar has a combined record of 2-14 against the three legitimate top-tenners left in the draw (and no, Schiavone is not one of them, with all due respect for her making the most of her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity), so it's a very long shot.

Re: Shahar's next tournaments in 2010 - Tokyo, Bejing

Petrova withdrew from her 3rd round match so Shahar is guaranteed to reach her highest rank ever at #10-13

(not happy about petrova being injured just about Shahar's rank of course)

How does she blow by the other players (Rezai, Li Na, Bartoli, Henin, Kuznetsova) without winning any more matches?

kuznetsova loses 1000 points this week so she is already behind shahar
also shahar passed rezai and bartoli as well already
She will only be able to pass Li Na or Henin if she wins more matches

What I meant by #10-13 is that
if she wins the tournament she can reach to #10
right now if she loses in the QF she will reach #13

If she's sitting at 13 right now, I really really hope she wins at least 1 more match to kind of cushion herself around that 12-13 spot.
