Croats in US Open
Croatia will have a lot of players in Flushing Meadows this year. Martic and Sprem are in MD, Lucic, Tomljanovic, Pandzic and Vrljic are in QD and Mijacika is 1st alt. so she almost sure to get in.
Which result would make you happy/satisfied?
Here are my thoughts:
Martic - R3 would be amazing, even R2 would be really good
Sprem - At least R2
Lucic - Pass the qualies and getting a win in MD
Tomljanovic - reaching MD
Pandzic - one win in qualies would be good for her rank, anything else is bonus
Vrljic - at least 2 wins in qualies
Mijacika - doubt she can win a match, QR2 would be really good
And I cheer them in this order: Lucic- Tomljanovic-Pandzic-Martic-Sprem-Mijacika-Vrljic
US Open is still far away but GL girls!

Re: Croats in US Open
Fun thread, Lucic fan.
For Petra and Karolina, I would be thrilled with just R2, since that first win is worth so many points (100).
I have high expectations for Mirjana and Ajla, so I'll be disappointed if they don't qualify. If they qualify, I'll still have expectations, so a R1 win would be amazing. Regardless, it's important for them to get at least one win in qualies, since it's also worth a lot of points (40).
As far as Jelena, Ana and Ani, I'm not expecting much. A QR1 would be more than enough to make me happy, given how many points they would earn.
I'm cheering for all of them but especially for Ani, Jelena and Mirjana.

Tomljanovic - reaching MD
These 3 would inspire me the most..
I mean with Martic and Tomljanovic, two young girls about to make there breaktrough
Miki reaching the MD again after her comeback.. But this time with a better Draw please not like SW19.
Though I wish all of them good luck and all the best for the USO

Re: Croats in US Open
Ok this is what I hope/expect for each of them:
Martic - to win 1 match, anything else would be amazing
Sprem - to get great draw and win for the first time in US Open MD
Lucic - to win first qualie round at least, hoping also she could qualify
Tomljanovic - same as for Lucic to win at least first round, everything else is bonus
Pandzic - one win if possible
Vrljic - no expectations whatsoever just hope she can win one match
Mijacika - same as for Vrljic, just hope she can win 1 match
I chaer the most for Karolina, then Mirjana, Ajla, Petra, Jelena, Ani and Ana

Re: Croats in US Open
Here's my "wish list":
Martic & Sprem: Anything really, even one win would be great
Lucic: MD R2
Tomljanovic: if she'd qualify
Vrljic: pretty much anything, but I think she might surprise us this time and maybe even qualify
Mijacika: QR2
Pandzic: QR2

Re: Croats in US Open
Does anyone know when the last time was (if ever?) that there were four Croatian women in the MD of a GS?
What's more, one has a good chance at winning her R1 match (Sprem) and two have decent shots (Martic and Lucic).

I tried to find that info, and what I found so far says that in the past three years ('08, '09 and this year) we never had 4 women in a grand slam singles draw! This year, we had 2 in the first two slams, then 3 at Wimbledon and now 4 in USO. Hope that trend continues into 2011

Re: Croats in US Open
Found it - the last time we had 4 of them was in Wimbledon 2006. This and other interesting bits of info you can find in a new thread I created inside "Ajmo Croats", I'm sure you'll find your way to it
