Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

* I thought the top 3 last year was; Cecil, Gullickson, Juricova

All somewhat similar style, power baseliners.

The top 3 power players this year; Juricova, Gullickson, Barte

and they lost this season to;

Gullickson

lost to Vallverdu(2), Falconi(2), Schnack, Chifchieva

Juricova

lost to Schnack, Gullickson, Dy, Falconi, Sanchez, Barte

Barte

Will, Dy(2), Sanchez

Barte also went to 3 setters against Schnack in the last two meetings.

Those players, to whom they lost have a distinct trait, methink;

Can move well, and can mix it up; slices, dropshots..

nice defensive skills that can foil or disrupt the attacker's rhythm.

In other word, an all-arounder.

----------------

* I enjoy watching a game in which the opponents have contrasting styles;

say in the last NCAA, Mosolova vs Zsilinszka.

Offensive rallying machine (not especially powerful) vs (Tactical) Moonball queen

Now THAT was some sight

In the same vein, I want to see

Juricova, Gullickson, Barte, Secerbegovic vs Cossou, Boonstra , Will (solid defenders, and C & B have excellent control and touch)

Re: Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

Fresno St. Petukhova is back! She's playing #3 doubles right now. So former #1 Kucerkova/Petukhova might be operational

in time for NCAA..

Also Pluskota of TENN will soon be operational. Sorbello/Whoriskey defeated Boonstra/Will recently.

Imagine when Pluskota/Whoriskey plays again. All top doubles teams, be VERY VERY AFRAID!

Re: Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

Have you seen Barte play? While she is a powerful player, especially for her size, she should not be grouped as a power baseliner player like Juricova, Gullickson, or Cecil. She moves very well, mixes it up with slices, dropshots, and spins. She likes to come to net and has great volleys. Also, this thread title is a tad misleading.

Re: Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

Made a title thread to talk about NCAA.

And of course Barte is not a baseliner. Read the OT again, I did NOT group like that. Anyway she

IS a power player. Say, similar to Henin?

Most players just can't handle her drives, that's a fact. Well, maybe I can nominate Secerbegovic

instead of Barte..

Re: Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

I mean Allie Will hasn't lost a match all year, and Embree has lost very few. Falconi is still number one in the nation. I think this board in general overrates Jurikova. I've never seen Barte play. I don't think the individual tournament is as locked as it was last year, when Mal was clearly head and shoulders above everyone else except Gullickson, who randomly lost to Vallverdu anyway.

Re: Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

Juricova is not overrated. It was quite a shock when I watched J for the first time, at Marks Stadium. Against Sanchez. The level gap was

overwhelming. J doesn't move that well but she doesn't need that much. One two punch, point end. Just like Gullickson.

She dispatched Embree easily at Riviera. And she's the indoors champion. Juricova's nemesis is Gullickson, but that's about it.

And Gullickson did not randomly lose to Val. Val won two matches against G this season too. She knows how to 'handle' G, by mixing

it up, slices, drop shots..very crafty player.

Same goes to Fahoum and Macfarlane.

Between who? Juricova and Sanchez? Or between the #1's and the rest of the players? #3 Maria Sanchez (USC) def. #2 Jana Juricova (CAL) - 6-1, 2-6, 6-3

I'm not that impressed with either Juricova or Gullickson. I know Juricova beat Barte in their last match, but I saw Hilary dismantle Juricova in the match prior and, while it may be a biased sample, I was not impressed. Same with Gullickson. This season she has lost to: Embree, Whoriskey, Falconi (2), Schnack, and Vallverdu (2). She's ranked where she should be.

Re: Tournament; NCAA 2010 SINGLES

no no, I was talking about last season, duals match. Juricova was just annihilating the opponents, you can check out calbear93's you tube video of

Juricova vs McKenna. Last season USC beat Cal at their home, but Juricova was..just a shock to me.

Of course this means Sanchez did REALLY well THIS season, as a Trojan fan I'm proud of her

Well, I don't think Juricova and Gullickson are overrated, just that the opponents that beat them are good Barte is just..you know
