Me too I am bitter, but we should move on. That's life. Even Justine is genuinely happy for Sharapova and doesn't think about Wimbledon anymore. In her latest interview she said it was meant to be, and that the destiny wanted it, period. She finally made her peace with that, which is great IMO. So we should do the same.
Also, Justine should have won against Mauresmo, she choked, so....
Sharapova might have had a cakewalk draw, but good luck to keep your mental on when you are the hugeeeeeee favourite from Round 1. Federer said it was difficult to not collapse, in 2009, he did it ! Well.

Game-wise, if you asked me who played a better tennis, I can be sure to say Justine even if minus off the biased part. But history nv remembers how good the player is, how tough the player has to go through to win a GS only the achievements not the process
Do you think game is the most important asset of tennis? Come on. It's the mental side, if you are able to last for matches without being an error machine. Really.

Ju is unfortunate and the thought of her watching Maria won the whole thing at her own garden just killed me.
This is quite ridiculous. She smiled a lot yesterday, and she made a lot of interviews in which she says she likes commentating a lot, and it's great blabla. She even defended Sharapova a lot of times !!!!!!

Quote:
Sometimes I tend to think that god isn't going too easy on Justine but well whatever..so long as Ju is living well and happy.

Sorry Maria and her fans, I wished for Sara to win this RG even if the chances are low. Maria can always win other GS.

In any case, I'll congratulate whoever wins the tournament but I may stop watching tennis for a very long time if Maria wins (Let me reiterate that I have nothing against her) unless there's a Juju look & game-play alike player surfaced 25 years later.
That said, I nv was a tennis fan to begin with anyway, I'm just a Justine Henin's tennis fan.[/quote]

That's quite sad, but yeah it's up to you..

My full thoughts on this : my thoughts

I mean, if Sharapova wins it, how is that worse than the likes of Ivanovic, Kuznetsova, Schiavone and Li?

You guys are gonna make me like Sharapova again !

It's worse, because she is Sharapova, the self-proclaimed cow on ice. Even if she was never that bad clay, she is still so far away from the clay game, it is not even funny.

Even her making the final should never have happened, let alone her winning it.

And so what, if she is a true fighter? Many are, but they don't get this lucky.

I will enjoy her loss next year so much

Re: General discussion thread

Debby, Maria is not a true clay court specialist, yes I admire her fighting spirits and mental strength but to win at RG really shows how weak the field is right now that you don't really need to be really good on clay to win.

And I said the thought of her watching Maria win just killed me. Yeah, that's solely my own super SAD thinking, not Ju's thoughts even if she's praising Sharapova, Get it?

With mental but no game play = shit play. Would you rather watch 2 pushers/ power player beating the hell out of each other in long boring rallies? But anyway, that was not my point. What I'm trying to say is, it would seem to be unfair for Justine given how hard she worked to achieve a career slam only to be denied with a serious injury. Maria's shoulder injury is not as serious as compared to Justine plus she had a much easier draw for RG this year to complete a career slam than Justine at Wimbledon.

I'm not trying to argue with you, if Maria really wins RG, I'll still congratulate her as a great champion but of course I would hardly be interested in watching WTA tennis anymore. Ju was the one who brought me as a total non tennis player/fan to appreciate Tennis as an art.

Many? This is the WTA.

I mean, no offense but I prefer believing Justine over you, she herself said in 2007, Sharapova was horrendous on clay, and she needed to drastically improve her game if she wanted to win RG one day. And she added Sharapova added these changes and was much better, and it was obvious as she is going to win RG.

Lucky? It's not Maria's fault that Serena bombed out early against Razzano....

TBF, Justine was the last really good claycourter, now she's gone, so there is a transitional period in RG before the resurgence of a dominant claycourter. Bombshell right there
Yes but she is going to win RG with Serena, Vika, Petra, Wozniacki, Venus, Radwanska in the draw.
Who would you have wanted to win RG this year then? I mean not in the fave-sense but who deserved it the most ?

Well, you acted like it killed Justine doing so.... "unfortunate" we are so passionnate about it, it affects us, but she is not even affected, she moved on

Huh?
My point is that you don't need to have a sickinengly great game to win Slams. I didn't say I enjoyed them And TBH it's frustrating to watch good players choking left and right. So for me it's 50-50.

WHAT ? Are you kidding me??! Maria's shoulder injury was as serious, maybe even worse ! The big difference is that Justine was old when she got injured. So she retired because it didn't heal as quickly as before, and it would be too late for her to get a surgery then coming back... It's a very long processus, and she is not 22-23 anymore. When Maria got that injury, she was still young. She was out for 10 months or something, lost her serve, had to suffer a year-two years of bad losses.... Seriously????!!!!

You are so biased OMG !!!! I can't stand these comparisons "blablah she doesn't deserve it, her injury was less serious blablabla" this is sick.

Re: General discussion thread

Well, we can just hope Errani is the woman of my dreams; like Schiavone in 2010.
Pova winning the FO doesn't really mean much to me (if she does). I have now seen enough to know that sometimes it doesn't mean what it says. There have been better players who have never won the career GS, never had the opportunity of easy draws.

I KNOW that Justine was just a fabulous player in every aspect of tennis and was just never meant to win at Wimby, I mean she had her career effectively ending on that grass! but she never got career grandslam under her moniker; but that's how the cookie crumbles.

Re: General discussion thread

Debby, debby, stop twisting my words! The "unfortunate" refers to the god damn fall, therefore unfortunate for Justine. I nv said that Maria do not deserves to win. You said it yourself that Maria was young so the injury cannot be compared to Justine. I added in the age factor into this "seriousness" of the injury. I don't hate Maria, in fact I don't care for the 99.99% of the women on tour. And I've already said, if Maria really wins this year RG, I will congratulate her as a great champion. Does that make me a sick biased fan of Justine?

The reason why I hoped for Sara to win is because, I think she is a better clay player than Maria is and this is Roland Garros not Wimbledon or other GS. Whether she has the power strength to defeat Maria, that's another case. I am free to voice out who I hoped to win, but I do not curse Maria or blame her for the cakewalk draw.

Yes I may still watch Federer because it's ATP not WTA.

Re: General discussion thread

I don't even care about the career slam thing, it is the RG being usurped that bothers me. At least when Serena won it it was down to her being dominant, but with Sharapova it is different. The fact that she hasn't beaten anybody only aggravates it even more. I mean, you can't get any luckier.

As for her not buckling under pressure, puurlease. She beat nobody remotely dangerous. And it's not like she was flawless, it was mostly the opposition that was horrendous. And Errani in the final just takes the cake.

Ridiculous.

I know Errani is not the best player ever, but I so hope Sharpy has a bad day and Errani wins. It'd be great to see a tiny player win.

Re: General discussion thread

Roland Garros isn't usurped. In fact, the more 'random' the winner is each year the more credit it is to Justine. Even non-tennis people pick up on this. A German ladyfriend of mine that had never before uttered a word about tennis asked me last year something in the line of 'That Justine of yours [ed. meaning that she's Belgian like me] must have been REALLY good to win RG all those times'.

I won't be upset if Maria wins RG. I'm with debby on this. Maria hung in there in difficult circumstances while she could have cashed in on her glamour girl status for the rest of her life. Psychologically that is just as difficult as having to struggle all the time like Justine had to do.

Still, I'm secretly hoping that Sara will win. It would be an incentive for young players that don't have the typical power physique to not give up. It might inspire a new Justine somewhere

I am openly hoping Sara can hold her nerves and win, because it is quite doable for her, and win for Ju.

Gotta say it again: Pova is one lucky lady.

I've been supporting Maria since her comeback and I'm truly happy for her success but I need to come clean and say I won't be jumping off my seat tomorrow if she wins. I agree with the posters saying this isn't about the CGS but about her or any of Justine's former rivals winning The French, her tournament. Call me bitter or jealous I don't care.

Re: General discussion thread

I have to agree Debby on this one not because weather she's deserves it or not but because the state of wta ATM. Since Justine retirement and the decline of the Williams the state of WTA has be inconsistent. Despite having a group of exciting players (such as Petra) they are all still in working progress and we do need consistence. It's nice to see other players to winning GS especially for older players. (Li, Strousr) but we do need consistence now in the WTA.
Anyway, Federer lost yesterday so this year's RG is over for me. I'm not quite sure weather should I watched the women's final or not. Since the match will be .
All I could say its that other top players are not up to scratch. They needs to be better or at least more consistent.

Re: General discussion thread

Bring out the clown (and the tears). So far, by the scoreline, Errani isn't able to handle Pova's big shots and the moment (they both are pretty much the same aga).

Pova can win a million zillion AOs, Wimbys, USOs but when she touches the venerable RG, the garden of our Justine, I am a little unhappy.

Re: General discussion thread

Totally loved today.

Justine was trolling, she was praising Maria, bashing the tour, and was genuinely happy for Maria.

And that moment where she drinks champagne with Tatiana and Maria. Oh and when she received flowers because the team loved her niceness and stuff, and she said she would be back. Amazeballs.

Re: General discussion thread

Complete silence

Cheer up, folks:
  1. While watching Maria and Sara I couldn't help thinking that there will probably never again be a real clay-courter. So Ju's legacy is not only safe, it's enhanced : The Last Great Clay Queen.
  2. Maria doesn't play clay tennis but she sure is no cow on ice anymore either. She found a way to overcome her disadvantage and that's the same thing Ju envisioned for Wimbledon. One has to respect that.
  3. Who else would you prefer to win RG realistically ? Serena ? Clijsters ? (The Horror) One of those run-once girls that fall apart after their first success (Ivanovic, Jankovic, Safina, Na Li, etc. etc, etc.) Someone like Radwanska, Wozniacki or Azarenka ?
  4. And last but not least : who's been having fun all over the place at RG while Maria is winning there ? None other than Justine Henin.
