Re: Aussies in WTA events
Great that Monique got through as a LL Sucky first round draw though.
Sophie finally gets a kind draw in a main draw WTA! She really cannot lose this match.
Silly that the qualifiers in Charleston, a Premier event, only get 12 points. You get more than that for reaching a $25K QF

That really is crap.... no wonder most of the girls opt to play on the challenger circuit so much... doesn't give them much of an incentive.

Re: Aussies in WTA events
Hurray and Hoorah! Sophie Ferguson had her first WTA Main Draw win since Brisbane 2007! She beat Mashona Washington in a close match 5-7 6-4 6-3. Congrats Sophie.
Tonight the other women are playing in Charleston: Adamczak v. Razzano, Rodionova v. King and Stosur v. Rybarikova. Plus we find out if Sophie plays Melanie Oudin or Jill Craybas in R2.
Oh, and if Stosur gets to the final here, she's back in the Top 10.
Good luck girls!

Re: Aussies in WTA events
More good news for the Aussies on the WTA tour:
Sam Stosur had a good win over Rybarikova in Charleston R2. But the result of the day definitely goes to Monique Adamczak who beat 11th seed Virgine Razzano 4-6 6-2 6-0 (1st round result)! Awesome result. Unfortunately Rodionova went down in straight sets to Vania King.
So at Charleston we had 3 women in the 2nd round and one's already in the 3rd round. How awesome is that??
Tonight's matches:
Sophie Ferguson v. Melanie Oudin (R2)
Monique Adamczak v. Angelique Kerber (R2)
and in doubles, Stubbs/Raymond play Dzehalevich/Savchuk (R1)

Re: Aussies in WTA events
It all went the way I wanted. Happy that Sophie and Mon won, especially Mon, what a scalp for her! So happy Vania won!!! Hopefully she can win two matches in a row this time. Don't give a flip about Sam.

Re: Aussies in WTA events
Last night's results:
Adamczak and Ferguson both lost their 2nd round matches in straight sets (no bagels though!). Stubbs won her doubles match.
Stosur plays her 3rd Round match against Dushevina in the morning (Aussie time) and Stubbs plays her doubles QF against King/Krajicek fairly soon...

Re: Aussies in WTA events
More Charleston results:
Stubbs lost her doubles QF
But Stosur had a good win over 14th seed Dushevina 6-1 3-6 6-1 and is into the QF where she'll play Shuai Peng.
With Adamczak and Ferguson's good results this week, we should officially have eight women in the Top 150 when the rankings come out on Monday! And 4 in the Top 100 if Jarmila wins her SF in Jo'burg. If only Dokic's season wasn't such a disaster, then we'd have 5!
Edit: two slappers who are doing well in Jo'burg will push Rogowska out of the Top 150

Nice to see Sam winning the matches she's expected to win. Hope she can do the next one too. Consistency has been great this year

Re: Aussies in WTA events
Sam won her QF easily beating Peng 6-4 6-1. She plays Hantuchova for a spot in the final. Go Sam!

Re: Aussies in WTA events
Another win! Stosur wins 6-3 7-6 against Hantuchova and saved two set points in the 2nd. She plays Vera Zvonareva in the final - a win would give her her 2nd title and the #10 ranking again! Go sam!
