Freya Christie

Happy sweet 16th to Freya!

She broke the top 100 in the ITF rankings on Monday, and she will be our youngest WTA ranked player when the points for Louhgborough, in which she plays the QF today, go on.

Yesterday she beat the number 2 seed, 450-ranked Daniels.

Re: Freya Christie

Freya will have to look elsewhere for birthday joy: she lost in two close sets to Liebens.

Re: Freya Christie

Freya has really set herself up for an exciting 2014. From what I hear, she's quite a powerful player and, from what I can see, is quite an athletically built woman. Good luck in 2014 Freya!

Re: Freya Christie

A career best win in Nottingham 50K qualies for Freya over Smitkova. Weird match, going by the scoreboard. Freya was in control up a set and lost 7 games in a row to go down 3-0 in the final set, at which point the match stopped updating on the scoreboard (I assume a technical glitch). It turned out Freya didn't lose another game from that point.

Re: Freya Christie

Funny to think a few weeks ago she beat Smitkova who has since qualified for and made the 4th round of Wimbledon. I hope it was more her playing amazing than Smitkova playing awful.

Quick update since then:

At the annual pre-qualifying competition Freya beat Beth Askew and Izzy Wallace but then lost to Emily W-S in three in the final round of qualifying but received a QWC to Wimbledon anyway for making the final round.

During Wimbledon Qualifying Freya lost in the first round to Alla Kudryavtseva 4 & 2 who then went on to qualify.

Freya then played Roehampton G1 beating Regina Clark R64 before having a very good win over Iryna Shymanovich (JWR 7, WTA 402) 4 & 4. However she lost to the eventual champion Ostapenko 3 & 1 in the last 16.

Her quarter section of the Wimbledon Girls Junior draw.

(12)Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) v (wc)Freya Christie (GBR)
Katrine Isabel Steffensen (USA) v Viktoria Kuzmova (SVK)
Seone Mendez (AUS) v (Q)Holly Hutchinson (GBR)
(7)Francoise Abanda (CAN) v Jaqueline Adina Cristian (ROU)

Really tough opening round but I think she has a chance. GL!
