Re: Donna Vekic
I'd be perfectly happy with a 108-110 finish for Donna this year, cause that would most likely guaratntee her a place in the main draw of Melbourne. At the moment, she is 53 points from reaching #108 and with 68 left to defend it gives a total of 121 (which is, incidentally, her current ranking ). If she'll play 3 events by the year's end, that's very much achievable, even if she suffers a surprising early loss in one of those tournaments. On the other hand, top 100 is currently 99 points away, which gives a total required of 167 points. Not impossible, but not easy either.

Re: Donna Vekic
GL Donna!!! I think the draw is probably about the best she could have gotten. Avoided Timea and Shuai until final and I don't think Caroline will cause her any problems.

A Donna - Garcia QF would be interesting, but Donna is be the fave there, because Garcia's poor form and lack of consistency.

You can't expect a teenager to back up their form every week. Asian players can be really weird, and if you look at all the 10Ks in China, some random qualifier often wins. Don't set yourself up to get upset if she loses early But if all goes as expected, SF is likely

Re: Donna Vekic
True, but not those. Donna doesn't need to back up her Tashkent game to beat them. A Lagos 2011 Donna should be more than enough

Don't underrate some of these players, especially Chin-Wei
Look what happened with Genie...

Just want my first round match to start!. Really enjoying the welcome and kind hospitality from the Chinese people. Feeling strong and ready for the match; my first opponent is Yue-Yue Hu (CHN) tomorrow 10.30 am (Shanghai time) on centre court.

What happened to Genie might happen to anyone, and yet this Chin-Wei is not Khumkhum. You'll say Genie has struggled with Hozumi too and you'd be right I don't know, I just think Donna is good enough to make the QF without problems.

Re: Donna Vekic
^ Nice win for Donna. She has now defended ~1/4 of her Lagos I/II points (18 out of 68).
She'll go in as the clear favorite against Honcova. Let's hope the Slovak doesn't spring a nasty surprise.

Re: Donna Vekic
Honcova had some good results earlier this year, but lost 6 matches in a row this summer. May be quite tough on a good day actually.

Re: Donna Vekic
On 3:3 in the first set, Donna saved 3 break points.
In second set Donna had 4:1 and servis than she lost 3 games in a row ...4:4...and broke for 5:4...and 6:4.
It wasn't such an easy.

Re: Donna Vekic
A bit of a struggle but she got through! Honcova shouldn't be too much trouble but we'll see.
It was a very tough match and I'm delighted to reach the second round. I beat home crowd favourite Yue-Yue Hu, (6-3, 6-4). The first round at a big event is always tricky and I have lots of room for improvement in the next round.

Re: Donna Vekic
Good start in tournament!
Like she said first match is never easy, especially because she hasn't played since Tashkent.
Good luck vs Honcova!
