Czechs Storm into Day 3

The Hopman Cup is a fun event where players can let their hair down with their compatriots and try out some things they learnt during the off season in competitive, fun play as part of their preparation for the Australian Open. But not for the Czech pairing of Nicole Vaidisova & Thomas Berdych. The pair have hit blistering form and have gone 6-0 in sets in 6 matches. On their opening night Nicole romped a resurgent Jelena Jankovic edging her in a tight two sets 7-6, 7-6 saving a Set point in the first set and again in the second set tie break!. Nicole the world #11 says that she is sick of floating around the top 10 and wants to be a permanent fixture in it and pick up her first title on the tour this year. Thomas Berdych handed out a hard to swallow defeat to Janko Tipsarevic in the same round as the Serb lead 4-2 in the first set. Nicole & Thomas paired up the same night to edge the Serbian pair in a thrilling 6-7(8)* 7-6(8)* 6-3 match.
Tonight Nicole took to the courts again to play NTT World #1 Maria Sharapova. Nicole was in stunning form hitting winners left, right and centre. She was simply too much for Sharapova and is now 2-0 W/L against the Russian after winning 7-6, 6-3. Thomas noted a win over Marat Safin after saving Set Point at 5-6 in the first set before edging a tight second set 7-5. A just a few hours ago the Czech pairing completed an easy 7-6, 6-4 win in the doubles. Could this be the year of the Czechs?
