Dinara Safina Possible Skip Australia Open 2010
After pulling out of Doha, Dinara Safina says her injury may force her to miss the Australian Open. "My low back, I have inflammation there in the bone," she said. "I've been playing on in pain, on anti-inflammatories, on everything. It's been about three months.
"It's possible that I might not be 100 percent fit for the Australian Open. Maybe I'll have to skip it."

I totally gave up on the idea to see her start her season in January . She has tons of points to defend but what matters is her health so if she's not ready for the AO it's a good idea to skip it .

I doubt she will skip the AO. I think unless she is on crutches or can't move, she will play. Imagine Justine, Kin, Venus, Serena, Maria, Sveta, and Dinara all in the AO 2010. My mouth is watering thinking of the possibilities.

She probably will try to play just to gain ground in regards to getting back to #1.

That's what she did already , i doubt that she'll do it all over again if she's not 100% fit like she says

Safina's gonna be a footnote to them all next year apart from maybe Kuzzy. Yes she beat Clijsters and was the last to beat Henin, but they will always beat her when it matters most, and then some.

Explains the poor form she had last months. She should not touch any tennis racket in the off season, skipping the aus open might be a smart move. She still is young and has much potential

Why talk about the Australian open in January when it's currently October and she has months to rest, recover and strengthen without the stresses and rigours of tournament play?  What happened to shutting up and dealing with an injury?
