I wonder whether they're gonna say they were wrong.

Re: Kiki Bertens

Sad for Pavs, but great for Kiki! First time in the third round at a GS for her!

R3 vs. Soler-Espinosa, which seems like a great draw but Soler-Espinosa in great shape. Final in Strasbourg and won 2 rounds here. Will not be easy and Kiki will have to rest up after this tough and long match.

I think they're definitely chances for a 4th round here.

Yes of course! I am just trying to temper the expectations, because Jan Roelfs who is commentating on NED 1 is already speaking of a QF for Bertens and I'm like WTF

Because he severely underestimates Soler-Espinosa, who has won 9 of her last 10 matches But obviously there is no reason why Kiki should lose.

Re: Kiki Bertens

Well she had bad luck with injury herself so she's sort of earnt this imo. Hopefully her ranking is back at International MD levels soon.

Re: Kiki Bertens

Kiki is in a really weak section though, so she has got chances to go far. Petkovic is probably the R4 opponent, but she will still have to beat Voegele and Riske/Mladenovic.

I have got no clue whether Kiki is gonna win against Soler-Espinosa though She is struggling so far in the MD to bring her A-game and Soler-Espinosa is in such great form...

Will have to see and wait.

Yeah, I think Petkovic is now the one to beat for that QF-spot and Soler-Espinosa is indeed in great shape and will be the favorite for her 3rd-round match.

Kiki has shown that she knows how to fight. She showed it against Nara a month ago and now against Pavs and Cadantu (first set). Had she not fought so hard today, she would've lost before Pavlyuchenkova got injured. That fighting spirit will be important against Silvia.

Re: Kiki Bertens

Shitty thing is that Kiki will still have to play Q at Wimbledon, even though she reached at least R3 here

This will do wonders for her ranking though, moves up to around 105 if I'm correct.

Re: Kiki Bertens

Like both Nastia and Kiki so I'm sad Nastia had to retire

But Kiki was fighting so hard with those BP and close games. Soler-Espinosa has been playing well in Strasbourg and here, but for a 3rd round at a GS this is not a bad draw ofcourse.

Some nice WTA points and $$$$$ with this 3rd round
Getting close to the top 100 again!

Re: Kiki Bertens

Kiki has earned $72,000 with this R3, that's more than she earned up till now this year in total

But the prize money is important, because financing a tennis career is hugely expensive. Kiki needs cold hard cash to pay for her coaches, hotels, food, plane tickets etc. It's a lot easier to focus on the tennis aspect if the financial element is taken care of

Re: Kiki Bertens

I'm not sure if she can win either. She's 2-0 up in the H2H, but those matches were on hardcourt. I'm also not sure whether Silvia's game suits Kiki? Don't know how she plays. I think hitting less UE is vital.

Then again, Scheepers and Wickmayer might not be easy, but they aren't the toughest opponent to face.

I just hope Kiki's feeling relaxed now that she's made R3 No pressure!

Re: Kiki Bertens

Normally I would say Kiki is favourite against Soler-Espinosa, but currently I would say 50/50. Soler-Espinosa may also be tired by the way, so I dont think the long match matters here.
Kiki-Petkovic would be an awesome 4th round matchup, but let't not get ahead of ourselves
