Last tournaments of 2009 (Guangzhou, Tashkent, Beijing, Osaka, Luxembourg)

Didn't know what to call it since I don't know her schedule for the remainder of the season.
Anyway, this week she's in Guangzhou, the same place that two years ago brought Tzipi her biggest career achievement - her lone WTA final (which at 34 was probably a tour record for a first one).

This was the original draw:

Code:
[1]MEDINA GARRIGUES, Anabel vs DATE-KRUMM, Kimiko
[WC]LU, Jingjing vs SEVASTOVA, Anastasija
WIENEROVA, Lenka vs QUALIFIER
FERGUSON, Sophie vs [8]BRIANTI, Alberta

[4]SREBOTNIK, Katarina vs SAVCHUK, Olga
HSIEH, Su-Wei vs [WC]YAN, Zi
QUALIFIER vs QUALIFIER
QUALIFIER vs [7]MORITA, Ayumi

[6]GOVORTSOVA, Olga vs [WC]HAN, Xinyun
SEMA, Yurika vs PANOVA, Alexandra
SCHEEPERS, Chanelle vs PARRA SANTONJA, Arantxa
HAYNES, Angela vs [3]PENG, Shuai

[5]PEER, Shahar vs WOERLE, Kathrin
FUJIWARA, Rika vs AMANMURADOVA, Akgul
JOHANSSON, Mathilde vs CHAN, Yung-Jan
CAMERIN, Maria Elena vs [2]ZHENG, Jie
But Zheng withdrew and was replaced by a WC, so anything short of a semifinal would be unacceptable. There is no-one in her quarter that should even bother her, no upcoming future star, nothing.

QF: (5) Shahar Peer (ISR) d. Yung-Jan Chan (TPE) 63 61

The real tournament starts now. 50-50 match in the semis against Peng and the crowd with the winner being a clear favorite to take the title, with top seed Medina Garrigues, in terrible form, ousted in the 2nd round (after barely winning her opening match against 39 y.o. Date).

bet365 might cover the match too

Shame there aren't any interviews or reports from the turnaments up until now.

This thread could also be titled "last tournaments of 5769". I just wanted to take the opportunity to wish everybody a Happy New Year! Lashona Tovah!

Re: Last tournaments of 2009 (Guangzhou)

Happy New Year everyone!!

Shahar has a huge chance to capture her 4th singles title. I really hope she can pull it out against Shuai. If she plays at the top of her game, she should win in 2. At worst, I'm thinking she can pull it out in 3.

Shahar down against Peng 2-3 with Peng serving.

Shahar breaks back and holds is currently up 4-3.

4-4 Shahar's second service stats are horrendous. 8/15 pts won and 2 double faults.

Shahar has a good service game, down 0-15 and wins the next 4 straight points. Leading 5-4, please break for the opening set!!

Re: Last tournaments of 2009 (Guangzhou)

Shahar takes the first set 6-4.

Peng was 100% on her second serves (4/4) and lost a second serve point for the first time on set point.

Re: Last tournaments of 2009 (Guangzhou)

Shahar holds in the second set, but she's struggling with her serve. She was up 40-15 to deuce then won the next 2 pts to hold.

First serve stats is slowly falling. Earlier it was 69%, it's at 61% now.

53% points won on 2nd serve and 2 DFs in 4 service games is not very good but far from being horrendous. I would use mediocre. We've seen much worse from Shahar and moreso from some players ranked above her lately.
Winning 6 of the last 7 games is impressive, but it's a pity the match ended this way. I hope Peng is okay.

Now Shahar must take the title. She's 10 times better than Morita/Brianti.

Right, but the average person on the street would have no idea what the number 5769 represents (or rather ) And it's spelled Shana Tova(h) (La = to is optional, but is usually used only with more words in the sentence)
Shana Tova to you too

my serve standards are a bit warped from my other favorites.

i really hope she hits the floor running in tomorrows final and plays smart. but equally, i also hope that bet365 will be playing the final in my reigon!
