WTA Top 100 (from next week) Angie Kerber will play for Poland from 2010
- I only live in Germany, I train in Poland with polish coach. Here I have whole family, on the tournaments I hang out with polish girls and not with german ones. They know that I am only a half-german. It's not that our relation are worse because of that. But me, when I can choose I always go to Agnieszka Radwańska, Ula or others - tells Kerber to 'Przegląd Sportowy' (polish sport magazine)
Angelique was born in Bremen and she lives in Kiel. Her father is Pole and her mother also has polish heritage even though she was born in Germany. The young player speaks fluently both polish and german.
First time she though about playing for Poland last year in autumn. It occured that she couldn't have done it as she played Fed Cup for germany a few months before. According to rules, she had to wait two years. In red-white colours she will play from 2010.
[Przegląd Sportowy]
Good that some solid player will be able to play for Poland in Fed Cup and not only Radwanskas.

Good that some players actually know where do they come from. It's funny cuz Angie doesn't even have both parents coming from Poland.

She won't be Top 100 for long because she has massive points to defend in the following weeks.
A wise decision because she had no chance to get into the German Fed cup team.

It ain't like there are that many open spots in our Fed Cup team either... We already have Agnieszka, Ula or Marta and Klaudia&Alicja, who are doubles specialists.

Interesting. It's nice to hear Poland's stealing some players back after having so many of their best players stolen from them by other countries. Now they just need to convince Wozniacki, Lisicki, Wozniak, etc. to come play for them too

Well she'd be ranked above Marta, so she'd be the #3 Pole. Currently she's the #7 German, so this would significantly improve her chances of being on the team.

I doubt that players are chosen by ranking as I guess an in-form Marta owns Angie and Ula both, but it doesn't matter that much. I haven't realised that you have 6 players in top 100!

Well I'm not German, I'm from the US. We're not doing quite as well as Germany at the moment---we've only got 5 players in the Top 100 and one of them (Craybas) is already 35 years old so we may be down to 4 again soon
Anyway, I presume they do primarily go by ranking.

Lisicki won't play for Poland, that's for sure.

Well, I wish her all the best and good luck, if she feels more comfortable in the polish team.
Good riddance.
