Re: Cal Poly def. Cal St. Bakersfield 7-0
Cal Poly just going after what's within reach!
- UC Irvine and Long Beach St. will fight for the conference auto bid. That is probably out of Cal Poly's reach.
- Cal Poly has almost no chance of securing a NCAA at-large bid with their schedule. That is definitely out of their reach.
- Last season Matz lost to Stephanie Hammel. So most likely Jenifer Widjaja, Hammel and maybe Klaudia Malenovska or April Bisharat will fight it out for the NCAA singles bid. That is probably out of Matz and Blalock's reach.
- Last season in doubles neither of Cal Poly's ranked doubles team got into the NCAA doubles. So the Cal Poly coach is trying to get the only thing that's within Cal Poly's reach which is the auto doubles bid with Matz/ Blalock.
A NCAA doubles bid would at least send the Cal Poly 1-2 duo out in style.

Good news for Long Beach St. When Hawaii 2 foreigners with WTA rankings are eligible and Hawaii's ranking skyrockets Nevada will get a rankings boost by beating them. The 49ers will get a boost by beating Nevada.

Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
Hey form, has the CS Fullerton at Long Beach St. match always been on Feb. 5th or was it rescheduled to that date? Or were the locations just switched?

Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
Scheduling LBS and UCI back to back shows USC is not worried about getting upset at all. Maybe LBS can tire out USC's starters just a little so the USC bench will play against Irvine.
UCI's Kristina Smith already has a win over USC's Lyndsay Kinstler.

Well LBS did tire out USC starters a little, but since Lao and Entekhabi didn't even play singles, I guess USC will win anyway I'll be there tomorrow to report!

Re: Updates
1/25/10
Arizona def. UC Davis 7-0
Pacific def. New Mexico St. 6-1
2. Christina Goehl (UOP) def. Sophia Marks (NMSU) 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4)
San Diego St. def. UC Riverside 6-1
6. Natalie McKay (UCR) def. Naseem Eslami (SDSU) 7-5,6-4
#24 Washington def. #62 Utah 6-1
#69 Minnesota upsets #28 Kentucky 4-3
- Should plump up Minnesota's ranking for Long Beach St.
Northern Arizona upsets UCSB 4-3
1. #35 GOLOVICS, Orsi/WAHINEPIO, Malia (NAU) def. DOCKENDORF, Jordan/LOZANO, Natalia (UCSB) 9-8
2. OJEDA, Bryanna/ONAGA, Asagi (UCSB) def. HASEGAWA, Yumi/PEREZ, Nicole (NAU) 8-4
3. HAUSMAN, Tova/NOVAK, Sofia (UCSB) def. OKI, Aimee/SUHAJDA, Edit (NAU) 8-4
1. GOLOVICS, Orsi (NAU) def. NOVAK, Sofia (UCSB) 6-4, 6-7, 6-3
2. OKI, Aimee (NAU) def. LOZANO, Natalia (UCSB) 6-2, 6-2
3. SUHAJDA, Edit (NAU) def. ONAGA, Asagi (UCSB) 6-4, 6-1
4. GLEDDEN, Annabel (UCSB) def. WAHINEPIO, Malia (NAU) 7-5, 4-2
5. DOCKENDORF, Jordan (UCSB) def. PEREZ, Nicole (NAU) 6-1, 6-3
6. HASEGAWA, Yumi (NAU) def. CANO, Erica (UCSB) 6-1, 6-1
And after UCSB wins the doubles point the UCSB coach gets cocky and decides to play walk-on Erica Cano. Now the UCSB coach has to wipe the egg of his face.
Following in their head coach's overconfidence UCSB's top 3 singles, who played well against Arizona St. and Arizona, don't show up against Northern Arizona.

#9 USC def. #50 Long Beach St. 6-1

(1) Kinstler/Sanchez (USC) vs. #58 Alawi/Manasse (LBSU - 9-8 (6)
(2) Fansler/Pulido (USC) vs. Armstrong/Dallara (LBSU) - 8-0
(3) Lao/Ramos (USC) vs. Cantlay/Luzar (LBSU) - 8-1
USC wins doubles point.
SINGLES
(1) #8 Maria Sanchez (USC) def. Deborah Armstrong (LBSU) - 6-2, 6-2
(2) Anais Dallara (LBSU) def. Sarah Fansler (USC) - 6-2, 6-2
(3) #39 Alison Ramos (USC) def. Jaklin Alawi (LBSU) - 6-1, 2-6, 6-2
(4) #37 Valeria Pulido (USC) def. Rachel Manasse (LBSU) - 6-3, 6-0
(5) Cristala Andrews (USC) def. Julie Luzar (LBSU) - 6-4, 6-0
(6) Lyndsay Kinstler (USC) def. Anna Jeczmionka (LBSU) - 6-2, 6-4
release
Last season Luzar was the worst doubles player at Long Beach St. Not a good reflection on Anna Jeczmionka that both Luzar and Cantlay are playing doubles infront of her.
