Vesnina is probably the only top Russian who's never fulfilled her potential, only watching as her contemporaries go on to greater successes. She ended 2012 at her lowest ranking since 2008. Will she ever show what she is capable of?

Lena had a much better match against Yari, upsetting her 2 & 3! Now a QF against Simona or Aga.

It will be Aga, who leads their h2h, 2:1. Uphill battle, Aga has won their previous two matches, and Elena has never beaten her on a hardcourt.

Lena traditionally likes playing in Auckland, I'm not that surprised she has played quite well once more. But very difficult against Aga. Lena does have the ability to beat her but she needs one of her "once or twice a season" red hot matches.
