But today some Danish medias reports that Wozniacki will try to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in mixed doubles (with Danish player Frederik Løchte Nielsen). This suggests that she will try to play at least some mixed doubles matches in 2011, but she will of course need wild cards to do so (and there are not many tournaments).

Maybe Wozniacki's dreams of playing the ladies doubles at the Olympics seem a bit far away now - not least because of Malou's knee injury. And it has also been decided that Malou won't be able to play Fed Cup in February, so maybe Caro will play doubles with Mai Grage or Karen Barbat in those matches. But I assume that Caro will only play the Fed Cup doubles matches if the score is 1-1 after the two singles matches. Otherwise it'll probably be Grage/Barbat.
and look for WC to Hopmans Cup 2012. Intersting if true. Anyho, looking at recent pics, my initially impression from watching a little from that poor stream from Thailand stands, Caro has really seriously beefed up!! ..

Wozniacki beats Li in 2 sets at Hong Kong Classic

HONG KONG (AP)—Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki beat Li Na of China 6-4, 6-3 at the Hong Kong Classic exhibition tournament Wednesday to earn her first win of the year.

The 20-year-old Dane broke the Australian Open semifinalist in the eighth game of the first set to lead 5-3. The Chinese veteran broke back, but Wozniacki broke again in the next game.

Li jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, but Wozniacki won the final six games to claim the match.

Wozniacki lost to two-time U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters in an exhibition in Thailand on Saturday.

Wednesday’s win also marked Wozniacki’s first since she switched rackets— she swapped her old Babolats for a new Yonex this year—but the Dane said she wasn’t superstitious about the tools of her trade.

“If you lose a match, it’s not because of the racket, it’s because of you. You have to think that way,” Wozniacki said. “To be honest, I’m the kind of player that doesn’t depend so much on the racket.”

Wozniacki had five aces Wednesday.

“I was serving pretty well. I tried to get as many returns in the court as possible and that helped me today,” Wozniacki said. “It’s still the beginning of the season. You need to get the match rhythm back. I tried to get my legs moving because that was important and I think I did that much better in the second set.”

Wozniacki used the tenacious defense that has become her trademark to wear down Li in the second set. A high forehand lob on the run in the sixth game forced an errant smash by Li and earned the Dane the break that evened the score at 3-3.

Also at Victoria Park Center Court, Aravane Rezai of France defeated Zhang Ling of Hong Kong 6-3, 6-0.

The field at the Hong Kong Classic also includes seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams, American teammate Melanie Oudin and Russian players Vera Zvonareva and Maria Kirilenko.

A wildcard for Hopman Cup in 2012? Considering there's no Danish atp player in the top 200 I don't think she'll be invited there.

Yah, it does look like she's gotten bigger. It's a bit of a concern for me. This quote "... I tried to get my legs moving because that was important and I think I did that much better in the second set.” is a bit troubling as it sounds like her movement has diminished which typically happens with these attempts to bulk up (see Martina Hingis and Jelena Jankovic for instance). Movement is a very big part of Caro's game and she really struggled when her movement was hampered by injury. I think we should keep a close eye on Caro's movement to determine if she has indeed diminished in movement.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

Her wins today give rise to a quiet optimism, what with winning against Na Li and with the Yonex.
A better start than 2010, although I realise its early days yet.

It's a very legitimate concern but if you want to be optimistic about things bulking up seemed to help Justine Henin's game an awful lot.

I have no idea if Denmark will receive a WC for Hopman Cup 2012, but apparently there are some talks with the HC organizers in this regard.

Another comment from Piotr is that Caro will not play dubs in AO. She will concentrate fully on single.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to think of that. I do think that Caroline's schedule may be a little too heavy but I would really like to see her play more doubles. I suppose the season is just starting, she will have plenty of other opportunities to play doubles.

Well if you call getting a horrible virus helpful to her game.

Seriously though I think Henin's improvement was a lot more the result of improving her forehand and getting a lot mentally tougher.

I don't think Caro really needed to improve her physical condition after last season, rather some technical improvements like a better forehand and improved returning of big serves like Stosur and some in her mental game/approach. So this bulking up is a surprise to me.

Hello

Haven't posted here on Caro's board before but have been a fan. Looking forward to see how she does at AO and hopefully I'll be coming over here more to cheer her on with you guys

I think the bulking up is probably an attempt to get a little more pop on her serve which I think is one of the things that Justine did. Caroline has been steadily improving her serve but I don't think it is quite where it needs to be yet.

I've only seen pictures so until I watch an actual match I'm not completely convinced that she has bulked up. It certainly appears that she has but pictures can be deceiving.

Would love to see Caro reach the stage where she can get some easy points for herself.Aside from the obvious tactical benefit,it's less draining psychologically when a player doesn't have to work hard for every single point

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 3

There's supposed to be a new premier warmup tournament for the Australion Open next year during this same week. I'm kind of hoping Caro plays it instead of the Hong Kong exhibition. I think that would help her better used to the conditions at the Australian Open as Hong Kong is a lot colder and the courts are a lot different than in Australia.

Caroline always has a special feeling for HK since she was very welcomed by the audience back to 4-5 years ago. And of course I'd love to see her coming back to HK as HK seldom got the chance to hold a tennis event!
