Re: Suddenly, Americans Dominating....
Well the Bryan brothers have always been a force. As well as the WS to get a final in both singles and doubles. The only surprise is Andy Roddick who has been playing great this tournament! And the anxiety is because all of these players are on their up and out of the game. Given a few more years and they will be gone. We need better juniors to come up! C'mon Sloane!

Re: Suddenly, Americans Dominating....
Suddenly? The Williams sisters were always the heavy favourites to make it into the final and with Nadal out , Roddick was the second favourite after Murray to make the final from the top half of the draw.
In the doubles once again the WS were the favourites as they were the defending champions and the Bryan brothers are World #1. All of these results are predictable and US tennis is still in a bad state as the youngest of all the players involved will be 27 this year.

Re: Suddenly, Americans Dominating....
Blake and Fish could have made it an all-American final in men's doubles had they not choked after leading in the SF.

There is no rule that general tennis topic about Americans should be in Men's forum.

Re: Suddenly, Americans Dominating....
Well, quite frankly...Americans at Wimbledon aren't a shock, given oh I don't know:
1992 - Agassi
1993 - Sampras
1994 - Sampras
1995 - Sampras
1997 - Sampras
1998 - Sampras
1999 - Davenport/Sampras
2000 - V. Williams/Sampras
2001 - V. Williams
2002 - S. Williams/Williams sisters
2003 - S. Williams
2004 - S. Williams finalist/Roddick finalist
2005 - V. Williams/Roddick finalist
2006 - V. Williams/Bob Bryan in final
2007 - V. Williams
2008 - V. Williams/Williams sisters
2009 - A Williams/Williams sisters/Cox/Roddick
I know that I'm forgetting some stuff in those years, but it's not surprising about Americans at Wimbledon. I dare say we do better here than at our own home slam.

Re: Suddenly, Americans Dominating....
I hear all the agruments you are making, still this is an impressive feast for any country.
Just subtitue US with Serbia or any other country, there would not be these "it was expected" response intended to downplay the accomplishment.

It is impressive, but for a country that's been considered a tennis power and a Grand Slam nation, it isn't as surprising. If the French did it as well, or Russians, it wouldn't be as impressive either.
It's the most impressive when they come out of a nation with not a hugely long tennis history like a Serbia or a Belgium.
